defragging and hard drive stress!

call me bored or whatever, but, i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how much 'stress' defragging puts on your hard drive...does it diminish the life?? possibly if you are defrag addicted??...lol...i know it's good as a general maintenance rule, but maybe something to think about...don't know!

Try Power defrag it works great and is much faster. I use it all the time.

I've thought about that and not too sure ... there's also the consideration that the drive may not work as hard if the file system is optimized.
I do it once a month.

yeah, i've know power defrag, it just optimizes some switches from what i understand of it...but i was more curious about the work and stress the drive has to do to move all those files, not to mention the heat build up when it's doing it....i just deleted about 700megs(8,000 files) of files and not all in one block(for lack of a better term) and it was working hard to defrag the drive..that's what made me think about it.

A change of procedure I've been doing of late has been to change the settings [taking off the checkmarks on the two options at the top of the page in the settings window after starting defrag from start>run] ... it speeds up the time to defrag quite a bit.
