Compaq, HP, Sony......top this

Anyone seen the new iMac?

Makes me want one. And it's packed with features that the common, everyday computer user will want and use. The iPhoto looks really cool -- take pictures, load them into the iMac, create a photomag, upload the mag to Koday, get your pic in the mail.

This is not a machine for us 'tech-heads'. But these features (not to mention stability) will appeal to a mass market. I have a feeling that this new platform, along with OS10 will bring more software developers onboard with Apple thus bringing software prices for the Mac down.

Oh yeah, BTW, got to play Quake III and Max Payne on a G4 today. Smoothest I've ever played either game (I've got a Radeon 64DDR VIVO running on my T-Bird) but the G4 was smoother and better over all. So for those of you that say this is not a game platform, I disagree COMPLETELY.

Hi audiyoda,

I couldn't agree with you more. I don't own one, but that doesn't mean I don't respect what Apple has done with their systems. Sure, you can't build one from the ground up or upgrade to your hearts content...but for what they are and what they can do, those Apple systems (iMac's and G4's) are incredible.

I've been impressed by them for years, but never got around to buying one. A good friend of mine has been an Apple user from way back (first McIntosh) and currently has a G4. He does have a PIII 800MHz, but only because he needs it for work. He just loves his G4.

You can't deny that they are very high quality products and they do what they do very well. I just don't see what people have against them.

I'd like to buy a iMac one day, but for now I'm putting together a simple PII 300MHz system to try Mandrake/Linux on. Oh well, maybe later...
