The last big Event
Now, after living 28 years of my life in Asia - Thailand , I have to leave this very nice place - My Home - back to Europe in the coming days .
When I was very young I had the opportunity to visit all the famous groups and musicians live in concert and then I left for Asia - giving me almost no chance to do that. But it just has happen that the announcement came on Local TV - that Roger Waters (Original founder of PINK FLOYD) would be playing on 10 of April 2002 here in Bangkok - even ticket prices were set rather high ranging from 25 USD to about 80 USD I decided to visit this very last big event here -and of course bought 3, 80usd tickets for me and two local friends.. Lucky - the concert was held very close from where I leave so I hadn't to leave home early last night on the 10th. Arriving at the Impact Indoor Areana which can possibly hold about 15000 spectators - my friends and I easyly found our Seats in this huge building - it's about a 100 meater in lenght and 40 meters in width.. - our seats were close to the center mixing console - that's almost a 50 meter away from the stage - Exactly at 7:30 Pm doors opened and we were able to enter the Arena - then at a few minutes after 8 Pm there that last big event went on - Starting out with " In the flesh from the WALL album "- followed by Another brick in the wall and Mother - the first half of the concert just begun and Roger Waters and his musicians gave the very best they could - there were Roger Waters BASS, Acoustic Guitars, Lead Vocal . then Two lead Guitars - (can't remember the name of the guys ) must have been in theyrs 50 also -- another Bass player in the back of the stage - then drums - this located on the left side of the about 30 meter wide stage right side there where two other players on Hammond Organ and Keyboards... and also three fantastic Chorus Female Singers.. Mixing Console was a Mista 32 Channel (may I got that name wrong) sorry coulnd't get close enough ) Digital mixer with computer control - then the video mixing control - (the guy playing hearts on his notebook while the concert was going on) and then of course 4 huge racks of CHEVIN power Amplifiers of which rack consistet of 10 of them - another few racks with Effects and other electronical goodies.. About 5 meter above the stage up in the air the PA Front Speaker system was located looking like a half BEE Housing consiting of six high columns of speaker sets where for each of those colums about 6 meter in height 10 Speaker cabinets were aligned - this naturally on both sides of the stage - exactly so placed that it could produce perfect stereo image front sound.. A few meters back - just above our heads there again speaker sets were hanging from the roof with speakers placed in all four directions of the compass in a half circle so that perfect Surround was certified for that concert.. It's not necessary to say that , the sound blasted my greatest expectations just away and I felt as I was young again - Roger and his group played for 3 hours with a break of 10 minutes and just one song followed by another none Stop - It was the best concert I ever saw in my entire live - and I saw many - most of the songs were played like you would play a record but with that big difference of the sound which just was the most clearest and pefect LIVE SOUND I ever heard - Drums and Bass heavy almost giving the feeling of getting hit by a hammer on the chest when low bass or the kick drum went in action - or snare with it sharp clear punch and then also highride with it's fantastic treble swinging throughout the Arena and the charlston machine - ... As for the the other instruments of course nothing less and the vocals where just as clear as someone could expect - specially in mother , then in the song "THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY" as well as in "wish you were here " which Roger just played in full consiting of all the four songs from this record.. Closing the concert with The DARKSIDE of the MOON "THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY"- and a surplus of " the walls - COMFORTABLY NUMB , I have to say if he would to come to play again or if I have to chance to go to any concert of him again - I sure will do so neverthless of the price .. sorry for this long post Hpro

Hello Hpro,
You obviously are a Pink Floyd (Roger Waters) fan. A number of years ago, I was an avid "Stones" fan (still love their muzik) and saw the most amazing concert in my life in L.A. I remember it clearly and also wonder "how" I got out alive after the immense "party" that concert was. That was in 1974 when concerts were a feat to survive. I have seen many concerts as you have and this particular one will always be remembered by me. In short, musicians like Roger Waters and other "classic" "artists" are a rare breed. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, I know I did. |

Toaster - I saw the stones back in 1968 and in 1972 in swiss - very very good concert...yeah I can say so - I enjoyed all of them -
saw Jimmy hendrix in Zurich swiss that time - I was 15 and countless other groups - but again Roger Waters just blasted them away - - he's over 50 by now and there wasn't one hickup in his performance last night - yeah and I am a pink floyd fan.. One more point about that concert last night - I couldn't see many young people there most of them were in my age and most of them were resident Foreign citizen - the consert wasn't sold out - as the one which is to come in swiss on may 12th already is - Roger Water is on world tour - so if any of the pcmech members get a chance to go and see it then do it - you will not REGRET it.. Well I don't know if I can top either of those -- but I had a chance to see Tom Scholz and Boston back in 1979-- I was 11 and in heaven. I just can't express what I heard and saw -- speakers just towering over the stage, more racks of amps and effects than any sane band would ever use .... Ohhhhh the memories.
Of course at 11, I couldn't really appreciate Boston for what they were musically -- there will never be another group like that. Thank God. -Craig |

Wow .. that is one that I wouldve liked to watch .. my friend went to the one in Oz .. and he was blown away. I'd watched Floyd sans Waters; and that itself was amazing, but I believe that Floyd without Roger Waters is nothing but an average group.
Good luck on your move out of Asia. |

Hpro, which member of Pink Floyd replaced Syd Barrett after he died? Do you remember what Syd died from? Wasn't it a drug overdose?

Hello folks,
I trust my concert days are pretty much over. The concerts I attended are: Stones='74 BadCo='77 Black Crowes='94 Stones (again)='77 Led Zepplin='79 (wow!) BadFinger='88 And a few others that have since faded from memory. The Black Crowes came out of Tulsa, OK and had a "get to know us" freebie concert. Outstanding in every way. However, they changed their style from "classic rock with a country tinge" to "metal". A buddy saw the Black Crowes with Page/Plant in DC new years 2000. Aw...gone are the days of this style of muzik making. Every now and again, a band does a "classic" type tune which brings back the good ol days. |

Sorry BFD - have to pass on that one - I listen to the music buy the albums or CD's but I do not usually read biographies or look for the memories of the group or it's members itself.. -
I think I can't even remeber all the names of the original Pink Floyd.I would need to look that up on the Cd album you don't belive me but that's the thruth.. the only few groups I do that were the beatles, Eric Clapton , J.J.CALE and then it's all downwards... but I will find that biography of Pink Floyd heve it somewhere here - will post back on that one.. Hi BFD:
I am a huge Floyd fan .. I have every bit of recording they have put out, even their sound tracks .. including most solo projects. Anyways Syd's replacement was the "pretender" (IMHO) Gilmour. He died also cos of the influence of his LSD. His influences were that amazing psychedlic (thats the name most frequently associated by his musical traits) sound Floyd had. |

Concerts I saw started with you will not belive it -
Procol Harum - 1968 same day as the BEE GEES The BEE GEES - 1968 - I was 16 - in Bern Capital City of Swiss The Rolling Stones - 1968 - 1972 In Neuchatel Club 21 - Pink Floyd - Umagumma - think that was the first album what they played and I din't like the group then ..!!!I started to like them with the album Meddle .. Deep Purple - also 1968 - with Shades of deep Purple Roger Glover , Ian Paice , Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmoore , Jon Lord the original Deep Purple..with songs like Hush, hey joe and more,, Then the Monster concert in the cpaital city of Bern Swiss- Small Faces and several other groups I can't remember..they never made it to the top either.. Dave Dee, Dozy Mick and Thitch - If I remember right.. in Zurich - Monster Concert - it was called like that because of the many Groups Performing there and the concert was for three days.. everyday changing the groups - main event was the last day as Eric Burdon and Jimmy Hendrix were performing.. Jimmy Hendrix - end of 1969 Eric Burdon and the Animals The Move also Zurich end of 1969 CREAM , starring Eric Clapton Jack Bruce Ginger Baker.. 1970 Montreux - Deep Purple ,Santana - Yard birds - Jeff Beck..Led Zeppelin - on the next time when Deep Purple made attempt to record in Montreux some guy burned the Casino down while Frank Zappa was performing - there for the song of Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water.. The main groups I missed - the Beatles..!!! never came to perform in swiss and my parents' wouldnt allow me to go to the concert held in Paris late 1969 and then latest yesterday.. I can only say life had gave me it's best when I think about music.. Same as for Toaster I think my days of visiting concerts have found the end last night - as there at present time are no groups or preformers I would like to see .. and the ones I like to see have gone long time ago with the death of John Lennon - killed by some stupid...
