Yeah, It is hard to beleive that the first link you posted is a real company. Who would use the service anyway? It doesn't seem right. I think the whole process of meeting someone and/or getting the nerve to meet or talk with them for the first time makes it all worth it. The last misc. q's at the end sum it up though explaining whether it is real or not.
2nd link, well, it seems like they took it from the movies. I can't believe that they have such a thing. Then again, anythings possible. |

i thought some of the fact that you had to be rich to even deserve your dream woman was horrid. and what made it better was the question about if the wife found out after the two got married. i love their answer to that.

the 1st link appears to appeal to extremely wealthy LOSERS.
The second actually is a real company, there are several of them scattered around the western part of the US. It is rumored that Walt Disney is cryogenically awaiting re-animation.

Actually that first link was covered by TechTV -- it's a real company that actually has a few clients.

Wow. So perhaps Big Brother won't be the government, but private firms! I wonder if I have been set up in the past by this company!
Ehh...not too likely!

I like the part where it says : The subject must be female. Gay male subjects are not being considered at this time.
And you can't have a star, you can't have this, you can't do that. And boy, its expensive! I wonder if they have a private database of the best women? |

I like the old fashion way of finding a girl by pure chance.

sorry to burst the bubble, but the first company is a hoax:
http://www.snopes2.com/inboxer/hoaxe...ker.htm#cassel However, the 2nd is quite real. (well maybe that particular one isn't, but there are several real companies that are in the crygenics business) |

The opening dialogue describes DL to a tee. After that, it's dead air. Which reminds me of a story...

Well, reading, not sure if it IS a hoax. Looks more like a guy who is trying to get rich quick, and bluffing until he gets paid to do so.
Hell, if enough people coughed up 10k up front, he could probably hire all the people he needed to actually start the service for real. |

Sorta reminicent of David Fincher's "The Game"
( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0119174 ) ya gotta appreciate the creativity at least. By the way, cryogenics generally is a complete load of crap, as the ice crystals that form when a body is frozen tear up the cells thereby destroying the tissue. Last edited by shecky981; 04-19-2002 at 10:22 PM. |

yeah, the ice crystal problem is probably the only reason that crygenics don't work. Animals that survive being frozen have a protein that prevents ice crystals from growing so large that they shear open the cell membrane and destroy the cell.

Why not just clone yourself - to be put into affect AFTER you die...then you could start all over?!?

The solution to ice crystallization is very rapid cooling; a group of engineering students here are working on a rapid way to cryogenically freeze fruitflies without damaging the tissue morphology. Of course, a fruitfly is going to be easier to freeze properly than a human, but it's a step.

Yeah, freezing water fast prevents a larger uniform crystal structure from forming. But that doesn't work for long term storage because over time, the crystal latice slowly shifts to larger, more formed crystals.
