Spiderman...who's game?

So, anyone else going to see Spiderman tonight? I will be. What do you think, will it be worth it? I've read most of the comic books since I was a little kid, so this should be interesting to see what they do with it.

They cut a scene out where he spins a web between the world trade towers and catches a helicopter. Too bad, I think they would have made a great scene. Oh well, guess we have to be sensitive about such things.

I'll be going to see it after it hits the cheap theater in a couple months... $9 at the regular theater compared to $2.50 at our cheap theater.

Yea, but I look at it this way. When my wife and I go out to a movie, it usually involves going out for dinner first. So by the time we do dinner $30, 2 movie tickets $18.00, popcorn and drinks $14.00 (what a rip off), and 4 hours for a babysitter $12.00, I'm already up to $74 to go out for 4 hours. At that rate, I gotta cut corners somewhere and knocking $13.00 off the movie admission is a good place to start as that alone covers the babysitter.

I think the last movie I went to on the first night was Eyes Wide Shut. It's usually not worth it to go when it is in the first-run theatres, let alone the first night. Dollar theatres are great!

My tickets are free. Well, free in the sense that I did some computer work for free, and now it is paying off. I'm still waiting for Lord of the Rings to hit the dollar theater. I don't see why I would pay $15 for me and my wife to see a movie, when I can pay $3 later, or buy it for $10 when blockbuster gets rid of it.

Well I'm waiting for the DVD. I figure if I'm spending $20+ to see a movie, surrounded by a bunch of rude, talking, people, I'd rather sit in my lazy boy, feet up, beer in hand and really enjoy the surround sound. I thank God everyday for DVD.

{sitting back in chair}.....So I guess not everyone has a old friend from High School that manages the city's biggest, baddest 20 screen theater...saw it last night at 7:30.

Have I told you about the May15th screening of Attack of the Clones?

Go ahead, hate me......

The expensive theatre in my town is $13.50 for a single ticket, although my friend works there, so he can get a free pass for himself and a friend anytime he wants, so that usually helps.

I never buy any food there, a large drink is $4, and its really only worth about $0.05 of pop or kool-aid.

We dont have a cheap theatre anymore, there was one, but it was really crappy, and went out of business, although there is a drive-in theatre near-by, and its only $10 for 2 movies (or 3 on special nights).

Look like an okay movie, but not worth seeing on the first night. I'll wait a few weeks till the theater's are empty and the tickets are cheaper.

Craig,

I worked at the local movie theatre in my area. As a matter of fact Dr. Z, its the Fullerton AMC which at the time was AMC 10 and now it has like 20 houses. I worked there for three years and we got the chance to screen every movie Thursday night before it hit the box office. My manager allowed my to occasionally bring friends and family and boy did that make me popular at school and home.

Regarding how good it is (ie...is it worth it): Depends on your perspective. If you love the genre (comics, X-Men movie, Blade 1 & 2....) yes, it's worth it. Best of the bunch so far.

Is it worth it to the eneral movie going public -- maybe. If you like action -- yes. If you want plot -- it's not too bad. Regardless what they say about the kid that plays Spiderman/Peter Parker -- I think he did a great job -- he's Peter in the comics to a tee. Mary Jane on the other hand just wasn't that much of a flirt or that flakey in the comics.

All in all, three thumbs up (me, my wife, and a buddy).

Saw it yesterday morning. (Matinae price, $5! I won't go to cheap theaters ever since a buddy of mine had to be deloused afterwards.) It's pretty good. You get your money's worth.

Now there's a flakey statement if I ever heard one troysvihl. You don't have any more risk of getting lice in a cheap theater over an expensive theater. Lice isn't necessarily a product of poor hygene.

Really? How do you know? Have you done a big study?

I haven't seen any studies on the subject, but I'd be willing to bet that the risk is higher in cheap theaters than expensive theaters.

BTW, why is it that you think it's "flaky"?

THX matinee. $2.50. Gonna see it in about 4 hours. Sometimes it pays to live in the poorest state in the union!

WEll, saw it, and it was pretty good. Except for the 3 dopes behind me who obviously had never seen or read any spiderman comics. Anyway, if you like the comics, I think you'll like the movie, too. So, for all its worth, I would recommend seeing it in some sort of theater.

Hey BFD I live in the poorest state in the union and we don't have $2.50 matinees. In fact my county has one of the highest unemployment rates. Maybe I need to move to Conrad. I could always farm beets on the ol' homestead.

Saw it last night. Unless you are a huge fan of Spider-Man, I think the movie sucks. Very disapointed. Now I wait for May 16...

edrod13: Yep, I've been to that theater several times, it's next to the arcade.

I don't understand what all the hype is about, it doesn't look like such a great movie. Maybe it's because I've never been a big comic book fan.

Do you have kids? If so, you should know from daycares and school. The cleanest and richest families can still end up occasionally with kids with head lice.

Why is it a flakey statement, because you have stereotyped that people that go to the cheap theater cannot afford the expensive theater, then you have stereotyped that since they must be poor, that they also have poor hygene. Dirty hair and head lice are not related, head lice actually thrive better in clean hair.

Oh please. All I said was that I don't go to the cheap theaters after some of my friends had to be de-loused. From that you derive some sort of disparaging belief of the poor?

There are so many non-sequiturs in your post, that I'm not going to even bother deconstructing it. Lets just say, that you're reading to much into my post.

I saw it last night, and thought it was rather good, the movie kinda drug along at parts, but the action scenes were done very well, one large discrepancy, that i was suprised that Stan Lee let into production was Spidermans web shooters. In the movie, after he is bitten by the genetically mutated spider, he finds that by flicking and pointing his wrists he can fling webbing. However, the Cartoon, and the Comic series, peter parker makes his own "web shooters" and requires refilling of web fluid every so often...that was my only problem......
