was watching Call for Help on Tech Tv and they recommended pc mech for the best site for answering questions related to building your own pc...

i just thought that was good that our favorite site was getting recognition...

Back in 1999, PCWORLD listed PC Mech as one of the best computer related tech support sites. In fact, that is how I got here.

But in its last roundup, PCWORLD forgot completely about PCM. They listed tech sites that charge you for asking instead!! I'm thinking of canceling my PCW subscription.

Where do you think they get all the answers they use on TechTV. We are the Show Notes. HA

TechTV drives me nuts. They cannot produce anything technical because no one would understand it and no one would watch it. So, much of the stuff is troubleshooting glitchy Microsoft products like IE, Outlook, Office. It is infuriating to see someone up there making money by telling people how to find the control panel. But, someone has to do it.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

I watch the screensavers almost everyday,
but it has gotten a little "stupid", with that Martin Sargent, I man, he is NOT a techy by any means...
And like clockwork, they try do "demo" something, and for some reason they did not "test" or hook it up before the segment, and they are left standing there. haha.
And Morgan looks like an extra for the Adams family (ewwwww)

Talking Ouch!

I wonder how many of the staff/live hosts of TechTv are members of PCMECH. I wouldn't be surprised at all.

First thing of the day, turn on computer, click on PCMECH and wish I could answer one #$%*& question about a computer. But I'll learn, I'll learn.

and I'm sure Martin will be hosting his own talk/celeb show after making a few B grade movies. Or maybe I'm thinking of Tom Green.

I stoped making fun of Tom Green when I found out he has went through Testicular Cancer. That's not a fun cancer....as if any cancer was fun.

I do not know how many of you have actually look at the profiles of the on-air people from TechTv, but most have degrees in Journalism or broadcasting, only a few of them have a background in computer related areas, and several of these are stuff like web design. So that means most of their computer knowledge is self-learned or fed to them.
What I cringe at everytime I watch show like Call for Help, The Screen Savers, or listen to Kim Kommando, is how often they give really bad information to the people. I mean I have heard them tell people to do something that will cause a problem to get worse. I remember one call to Kim Komando that the problem could have been resolved by going into the Display Properties and changing the setting, instead the person was told to reload their system with the restore disk.

Yes, they can be spooky at times!! I remember the one where they were telling how to hook up hard drives, and they said the Blue goes to the master, and the Black to the mobo...... Leave the Grey a little short, ha?? LOL

It was looking through the web that I found this place, looking for a How To Build a Computer help file. Then I got the link to the forum. Been here ever since. We don't get TechTV over in the UK (at least I don't) seems like a good thing. There used to be .tv which wasn't too bad, but when I watched it I knew nothing about PC's so anything would have sounded good. All I remember is they liked telling people to reformat-reinstall!

IT would be pretty interesting to see how many people would watch the show to start with!

I used to watch it a lot more than I now do. The shows I wanted to watch were on at the times I could watch. Then they started messing with the times, putting the shows on at weird hours (for me at least). Then they started this start the show at the 1/2 hour, instead of on the hour, which then messes up watching shows on other channels. Then they did all the changes listed above, like pulling Leo off Call for Help, etc.....

PS: now I just subscribe to their different email letters and go only to items of interest.... I do this more than watching the actual show.
