I'm hooked, you guys got me now... totally sucked in. I want to be to where I know what goes with what! You guys know so much about product, but I'm sure I'll get there with time.

The one last night was for a friend (and I had husband watching nearby so I didn't break anything). I want to re-do my own now and boost it up!

If I can remember what is in it (and don't laugh if I don't get all the details cuz I'm still a newbe!)
Enermax case
Intel P4 ___ w/ heat sink
Lite on 52x cd drive
Lite on Cd burner (cant remember specs but there was a 40 in it
cant remember the HD specs
there was a floppy drive
modem (in case she moves back to where they don't have cable service)
512 ram
SB Live sound card
64mb GE Force something.....

thats all I can remember!!!!!

Great to hear you've got the building spirit. Catching the modding bug yet?

Ha! My wife hates the words "case mod" now. I think she liked it a lot more when I was into woodworking. More benefit to her. I just think of my case as a constant work in progress.

First off, welcome to the Mech!! Yeah, I'm afraid you've got the 'bug,' isn't it great?!! One things for sure, you came to the right place if you ever need help or good, SOLID advice. The people on this forum know their stuff when it comes to 'puters, and if they don't know, they find out!! I'm pretty new here also, and I love this place!! BTW, I loved the description of your new machine! That was priceless!!!

Congrats on the build!!!!

As for case modding... does anyone have a good explanation as to why my machine MUST have a window & neon lights inside?
(I think my family and friends are starting to worry about me.)

homie27, My philosophy is, once you've built a sweet machine, you may as well make it look sweet!

Ive painted my case, added a window, added 2 cold cathodes (red and blue), sleeved cables by hand and bought rounded cables.

I loved sleeving my cables. Since it is so much more involved then installing a cathode, and your really changing something, I felt like a true modder.

Hello, My name is Alaron, and I have a problem.

MODZ RULE!!

My dad walks into my room and sees my computer - big and silver with a full side window and a blue cold cathode inside and treats it like it is some nuclear experiment - He looks at it and says "I don't want to know what it is" and then he asked "are they even going to let you bring it to college?" That's the cool thing about modding - it brings attention to a computer and allows you to display some of your fine work. If people didn't inquire about your computer without a dell logo on it they would think it is some piece of junk from walmart or something.

Homer - I think he is talking about putting split loom or another various material over all of the wires.

Cable sleeves are available at most mod product websites. I got 6 feet of black 1/4" sleeve at FrozenCPU. Its basically a mesh that you can use to cover the cables in your system. For the PSU leads, its just a cool look, but it is helping with case to mobo leds. I have 5 wires that were all crazy in my case. I enclosed them all in sleeve and viola! No air flow restrictions.

Sleeves: http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/fro...nu_search.html

Guide that I followed: http://www.virtual-hideout.net/guide...ng/index.shtml

HTH homer!

I would like to congratulate you on your first build, but I give condolences for you credit card. This is more than an addiction; you've swallowed the blue pill and can never go back.

As for modding, I need to get a camera because I 'm working on something so strange that it defies description. I will not give any spoilers until it's time to unveil it. ... Oh well, let's just say that I went with a redneck motif.

LOL!! You didn't attach a gun rack to the side, did ya???

I finalized software and cleaned up the cables tonight. I'll try to get a link on here later to show off "my baby" that sadly I'm giving up to my friend!!

Mine's getting the overhaul next tho - and the glossy eyed fever will start all over again!

Let me guess, Werewolfdaddy. You cut a big "T" shaped window, installed orange neon and upon boot up it plays, "Rocky Top".

Not to give anything away: no. My blood runs orange enough. I don't have to paint myself or my belongings in orange. Many people around here do that kind of stuff, though.

When I got my first computer and lived at home my mom saw all the cables for the computer plus my tv, vcr and audio cables (as they were all close together) and said, "We're going to have a fire!!!." I tried explaining to her that only a few were actually power cables but I don't think I convinced her.

Now I'm out on my own with more computer equipment and wires! Although the audio and video stuff is now with the entertainment center. My fiancee now thinks I am a tad nuts sometimes though.

I do try to keep my cables somewhat orderly and bundled.

Here it is!

This is my first crack at posting a pic, too so I hope it works.

Had to show ya all "Kristina" (named after the girl for whom the comp was built!)

The wires might look a little jumbled, but really they are up and off of everything- sure wish I had some of that sleeving mesh! Oh well - when I redo mine I'll put it on my list!

Thanks for peeking!
