With the E-Mail system that I administer we purge e-mails that are of a certain age, 90 days old or older. I am not familiar w/Hotmail but could this be a possibility?

Well if Hotmail does not employ a purging schedule then it seems that this would be a question that would need to be directed to Hotmail.

I did find one article from KSU about having problems w/Hotmail in the area of lost e-mails. The article was written quite recently - 9.6.02. They din't trash hotmail or anything like that. They just try to point out that Hotmail is so popular that they can not curently handle the volume of e-mails that hit their system, 130 million accounts and 1.5 billion pieces of e-mail daily.

I would contact any Hotmail support via e-mail or telephone and ask them about this. Especially if it was important e-mail that was lost.

A word to the wise - if it's important, back it up somehow and definitely do not depend on an external service to preserve the one and only copy.
