grandfather
I haven't been on the forum as much as I have been in the past. My grandfather is sick and perhaps dying. Just wanted to let you all know why I've not been posting as much as I would normally and I don't know if I'll be able to post much in the next few weeks.

Thanks for filling us in, WWD. Hope everything works out to the best for your grandfather. He'll be in my prayers tonight. We'll still be here when you get back though (like you had any doubt of that
).

I lost my dad earlier this year. Funny, his death, though bad on me and my brothers, was worse on my son and my nephew. I guess, because he was retired, he spent more time with his grandsons than his sons.
The death or illness of a loved one is always tough. Spend your time with him. We will all be here if you need us. You will be in our prayers. I pray that he recovers and is with you for a long, long time to come. CH |

Life is a journey, blessed by those we call family and friends we meet along the way. Each day we take so much for granted, thinking that the other person will be there tomorrow. All the more reason to make each moment count, for at the end of the journey we are all equal.
Wolfman, share the remaining days with your grandfather with both sadness and happiness. Sad because he is going away, but happy that you had so many good moments with him. He knows you care, and at the end of the day that's the important thing.

Take care of your Grandfather, that's what's really important.
My dad died when I was in my first year of Law School. I was so overwhelmed with school, my wife had to tend to his needs while he was in the hospital. I still feel guilty about that to this day. |

I would say that you and your Grandfather would be in my prayers, but I am not religious, nor do I believe in God. That said, I wish you and your family nothing but the best. I know what you're going through; my Grandfather is currently dying of pancreatic cancer.

You will be in my prayers WWD, as also your grandad. I lost my mom this past july, it was rough. But I had god with me & especially her since she died in her sleep after many strokes the last few months.
Alienware you will be in my prayers also, since someone needs to pray for you. It is your right to believe in what you want to, after all who will know what is right until it is too late! As for me, I have no doubt now. Though when I was young I did! Take care friend! |

Thanks, guys. Things are looking up. He actually is doing better, but the long term prospects don't look good. His heart has just about had it.
Man, the stories I could tell you about him, though. He quit school in the third grade and went to work in the coal mines. When the war started, he joined at the age of 14-15 - I can't remember. They gave him an iq test somewhere along the way and he tested over 180. At about 5' 4', he used to be one of the most steely-eyed men I have ever seen. I love him. |

He quit school in the third grade and still ended up with an IQ of 180! Man! Makes you wonder if he even needed those first few years of school too.

He can read like no one's business. I think he reads like 3-5 books a week.
I just wonder what he would have been like if he had not been born into a coal mining family, but into a family that could have afforded to send him through college or at least through highschool. |

School knowledge is not always the best. It just goes to show what the older generation was capable of with their drive & determination. But you are right he could have been someone else in a different situation. Would you still have loved him like you do now though? Thats great that he is doing better too! Hang in there big wwd!
