projectiion tv

I got my self a new 50 inch toshiba projection tv.The salesman adviced us to get a power contactant box i think that is how its called for $300. He says that this tv needs constant power or the log on channeles like for exmaples cbs log will burn in to tv and u can't fix that and only thing to do is replace screen. So is this actually true or was he doing trying to sell something that we don't need?

Having worked for Sony, can we first talk about returning that Troubledshiba and choosing a 'different' ProJo? I'm only joking.

The saleperson was correct in offering a power conditioner, but for the wrong reason. New projection TV's (ProJos) have very complicated lenses or 'guns'. They require a fairly constant power supply, they are usually built with a tolerance of 2-3% but your common house has a power fluctuation of up to 8%. That's where a power conditioner (not a power strip) comes into play. But I don't think you need to spend $300.00 for one. Monster Cable sells a beauty for around $80.00. It offers single stage power conditioning, RF/EMF isolation, and as I recall around 1400 joules of supressor protection.
