Reporting Posts

Just a comment to those who wish to report a post when something is wrong on PCM. Please give some details such as the user that is being reported. It saves a lot of time reading thru a long thread to find out just where the problem is.

Thank you.

This would help out A LOT; especially if the post in multiple pages...like...say....12.

It's no big deal really, just makes our jobs a little more painless.

Question:

Doesn't the 'Report this post to a moderator" link actually take you to the specific post (rather than just the thread)?

If not, is there a way to reference a specific post (rather than thread)?

Thanks,

David.

No... it takes us to the thread in question. Now without reporting who is the problem, it can cause a lot of problems in a long thread where the mod has to read thru the entire thread to find the problem at hand. If at least the user name is given, it gives the mod something to scan for to find the offending post much more quickly.

It may be very obvious that I know little or nothing about this, but if I look at the link generated by the 'quote' button, it contains a reference to the 'postid' as well as the 'threadid'.

Would it be possible to make the 'Report this post to a moderator' link contain the 'postid' too like this:

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...171#post407171

That would make it easier for the mods, and wouldn't rely on people having read this particular thread.

Alternatively, perhaps the link could pre-fill a form that prompts the user for the name of the alleged offender?

I haven't been brave enough to click on the report link to see what it does!

Just some ideas.

David.

OK... I just did a test one.. and yes, it did give the post ID and took me to the correct one... but I still have in my e-mail a reported post from a while back and for some reason, it does not take me to the exact post, but it takes me to the right page. Now whether this is fault of the system, or of the browser, who knows, but the extra detail would make things easy.

As for clicking on the Report this post... all it does is take you to a page where you can put in a brief description of the problem (including the person you're talking about thank you) and then you hit send.... it immediately goes to the e-mail for the moderator of that forum.
