windows critical update

I recently updated my updates lol... and I still continue to receive a critical update notification something like 3 times a day.

Two problems:

-when I click scan, nothing happens and it sits at 0% forever...so I end up closing the browser. Why is it not scanning? It used to.

-why the heck do I get at least 3 notifications a day? This thing became a royal pain in the butt. (So since I'm using win98se I went to add/remove programs and removed this feature.) But again why would I receive so many notices???

thaks in advance
Richard

Instead of using the windows update, try going to the MS website and downloading updates directly off of the site.

My comp does the same thing when I try to use the windows update function. That's why I just manually download the updates. Plus, I know exactly what updates that are going on my comp (ie, MS doesn't get to stick me with alpha or beta updates unless I download them purposely).

Try reverting back to IE 5.x - I've seen some pretty strange stuff happen with IE6 on Win98.
