Personally I prefer Windows 2k server, but linux is a very capeable system and cheaper. But if you are using a hosting company why do you need a server?.

Webhosts often give you a choice of being hosted on a Linux or a Windows server, I think this is what the person is asking, which is best?

Make sure you update everything. Turn off every daemon that you will not need, wich is quite a few in a server. Think security or you will be had.

Blak: I believe he is referring to his hosting plan, not a local server. Nobody has yet given him the pros and cons of a Linux vs. Windows package.

Pros & Cons. Hum. Well, if he was setting it up himself and administering it i would say windows just for ease of use, but as his host is doing it and im guessing they're the experts, I would have to say linux for stability and security reasons.

In that case, Linux hosting should cost less than M$. They should pass on the savings as it is a free os. If they don't, you should look elsewhere. I know folks who host on both, and I can hook you up if you so desire. Nothing naughty or warez type stuff.
