I dont think anyone can truly be inspired by a video game to do something unless they are mentally handicapped

TV, movies, rock music were the big thing in the 80's and now video games. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions any more.

People have always had excuses for their actions. Difference today is that we as a society are allowing it.

We used to demand responsibility.

It's not just in the realm of criminal activity, but in everyday live as well. We allow lawsuits and award huge sums for failings of individuals. No one forces people to buy hot coffee and then spill it while in a car, smoke or eat Big Mac's but we excuse their actions and punish the corporations.

Theres no excuse for shooting someone (other then self defense) but just doing that theres no excuse and they have to have something wrong with them if they would do that.

"...they were inspired by the virtual sniping in the video game "Grand Theft Auto"."

The key word there is virtual ... sure the game is fun, but it's not real.

Confused is correct. If this world of ours made us pay for what we do then it would definitly be different than it is now

"Minesweep made me plant the bombs around MS head-quarters."

Seriously, a game won't make anyone do anything... besides, if you ever play GTA, you do get cops on you, and they do eventually kill you, unless you use a cheat code... Not many of those exist in real life.

there was a spell in the mid 80's where I started eating dots and chasing ghosts around... I also had a severe addiction to cherries.

i'm not sure why I did it, but my parents blamed it on video games..

I have 2 kids, now 23 & 19. They both grew up on every kind of video game/player available in the 80's and 90's. They both seem to function just fine today. Maybe it's because as little kids, I didn't allow the "not me" ghost in my house. When someone did wrong, we identified the wrong-doer and he or she received just punishment. That's where the buck passing starts, little kids being allowed to say "not me" when it is them and parents allowing them to get away with it. Teddy Roosevelt said it best "Spare the rod and spoil the child". That doesn't mean we have to beat out kids, but they do need to learn responsibility for their actions and discipline.

I agree 110% I was brought up that way and I raise my kids that way.

I agree with you about the "not me" thing. If a guy I knew named little Kent had a proper upbringing his mommy wouldn't have had to pay so many police and judges to help her baby out.

Doom made me buy a BFG9000 and a sawed-off double barrel shotgun.

I started playing ultra-violent games even b4 I was a teenager. I think I grew up fine. Not yet charged with a crime (well except speeding, improper left turn). No general ill feelings toward any living thing. I think all it did was gave me nightmares.

I have older children who play the GTA games as well as Mortal Combat and others. They also listen to Ozzie and Metallica and other heavy metal music. None have been to jail or committed any crimes against people. Like I have always told them. Anyone who commits a crime and blames it on video games, music or wrestling, or anyother medium, had more problems to begin with than those games caused.
