Exclamation AIM - is this true?

I recieved this from a friend of mine, but have been unable to confirm its source:

Quote:
Dear AIM users,
Because of our overloading of our servers, we are being forced to extract our non-active AIM users. Because this is a free service, AOL has exceeded the budget for the AIM service. We are asking that you send this exact message to 20 other AIM users to ensure us that you're an active AIM user. Our system tracking devise will pick up this message to keep you on our active list. You have 72 hours to complete this task or your service will be cancelled immediately. Starting September 10, 2003, we will be charging a small fee for registering of a screen name for AIM. Thank you for your time and for using AOL or AIM

Send a message via AIM to boxcarracer767
Its a fakie, I've seen that letter before, maybe about a year ago, the sending to 20 people gives it away, more like a chain letter/spam mail.

Agree with boxcarracer, AOL probably wouldn't set a number (20 people) for you to send it to, if it was real I would guess that AOL knows who's active.

AOL makes too much money to charge money for AIM. That would be almost ludacris if they would charge for something that had been. If would be like the RIAA making CD's free or something! hahaha

AOL wouldn't charge for AIM. Hell, I have about $600 worth of AOL Trial CDs from past years. I'd just send those to them and tell them to resend them to save them money...

I have heard of a few people who have done some creative things with all of the AOL CD's. I have heard of them being used in place of clay pigeons for skeet shooting, have seen pictures of curtains made of them, one of the guys at work has turned them into a covering for the cubicle and there used to be a web site that gave you an address to send the AOL CD's back to AOL at their cost.

This email is an obvious hoax as was siad earlier. AOL would surely know who was active and who was not.
