e-mail question
Hi Gang
I am through putting up with poor e-mail service that AT&T puts out. It is slow, sloppy, and hard to work with. And they will not admit to it being their problem, even their own people say it is very bad. I would appreciate any opinions that any one might have on other e-mail providers, either free or pay. I have no complaints with them as Internet providers, but their e-mail service is terrible. Take care........Gunny........

My primary email account is on yahoo, and it's quite good. It has an excellent smam filter and a good interface.
Whatever you do though, don't get hotmail. If you have a hotmail account, you know why. MS sells your email adress (or maybe they leave lists of them easy to find somewhere) to a particular industry that you would probably prefer not receive spam from. |

Hi Matt
Yes I have heard about Yahoo too, and I believe it is a free one. And I have heard bad things about hotmail also. I had an account with them years and years ago, and it was bad then. I figure hearing about these places from people like you that actually use them, I can really get the whole truth....  Thanks for the reply and information..Gunny.....

I have both hotmail and yahoo mail. Yahoo is the better of the 2. With Yahoo you get 6MB of space. I think with HM you get 1 or 2MB, I can't remember.
Check out yahoo.

I have MSN hotmail and Yahoo. I can't see any difference. As for size, my yahoo mail acct. is 6MB, while my hotmail is 10MB. I've used MSN for several years, and have had some problems but nothing worth yakking about. Thorlo6

I have Yahoo, Excite and Go e-mail sites. They are all free. Go has the most spam. Excite and Yahoo have spam blockers and also automatic bulk mail folders that large e-mails go to. Most of those are all ads. I don't even check my bulk mail, I just delete it. Other than the occassional upgrades I don't have many problems with any of them. I don't as a rule deal with a lot of e-mail, just jokes and an occassional message from friends.

HEY Gunny........
I have had http://www.juno.com/ for about 4 years now, they have choises of free, 9.95, & 14.95 hi speed. I have used & seen others but always end up using good ole Juno. DH |

Hi gang
I guess we all have had our good and bad times with the different e-mail providers. I have tried some of the freebies too, and I have found out really you get what you pay for. If you are getting some thing for free, there is not much to complain about, the way I look at it. But if you are paying for it then I think you have some thing to complain about. I don't care if you are paying $2.00 for it, that should entitle you to some sort of decent service. If they don't give you good service then it is time to move on. I think too many of these providers treat you like they are the only ball game in town. Well as we all know there are plenty to chose from out there. I don't expect perfection from any of them, just decent, relatively trouble free service, and not have the constant e-mail problems that AT&T has. It is both sending and receiving e-mail that has the problems. It is slow, and some times just don't work at all. So I think it is time to move on to DSL, and try that. If I were in business, I could not exist with the poor service AT&T gives you. Good thing I am just using my PC for home things...... Take care.........Gunny.............

AT&T has been taken over by Comcast, or it was here, and Comcast gives out horrible internet and email service not to mention bad service.

Be it AT&T or Comcast, it stinks. ;-) I have been with AT&T for a while and when Comcast took them over I did not notice any change. Business as usual. Not only does there e-mail service stink, but their cable service is no better. I have had experience with that also. That is a very long story so I will not get into that, but I do have a satellite dish on my house, and the cable from Comcast is disconnected. I cannot blame the people that work for them because every time I have called in with a problem, they have been some of the nicest people I have had to deal with. Very helpful and courteous. I have a lot of customers here in the Chicago area with Comcast, and the service is very decent.

I personally use Hotmail and Yahoo accounts and reccomend them to all the people I talk to. The hotmail is my main account that I give to anyone and everything (I expect spam in it, and it has a very good filtering system). Then I use my Yahoo account for friends and family (this account very rarely recieves spam). I hardly use my ISP's e-mail. By using this system, I don't have to worry about my ISP being sold and then having to go through the aggravation of changeing e-mails and also when/if I change ISP's, no worry about giving everyone my e-mail addy. Another big advantage with this, is since both Hotmail and Yahoo have virus protection, I've never recived a virus through them (or have been able to trace a virus back to them). The only problem that has arised, is there's been 3 times that my hotmail account has been "stolen" by me not paying attention to what I was doing and giving my ID with password out through e-mails to "verify my account", but surprisingly by talking to M$'s support through e-mail, I've recived control of the account back. I've been using this system for years now.

There are probably so many variables with this e-mail business, like so many other things. There are no perfect situations. You buy your ticket and you take your chances, the old saying goes. What don't work good for one person, might just work perfect for another. I guess that is one of the reasons there are so many of them out there. If there was just one and it would be perfect, what fun would that be. ;-) I guess one big thing we must all look at is of course the security issue. Maybe instead of looking at all the fancies, and such, in our e-mails, the security should be uppermost when looking for a good provider or e-mail provider. If a provider can assure me of my securities, I will tolerate a small malfunction now and then. I must say that AT&T has saved me from viruses a few times. And that, I am very thankful for, cause I was hit by one before, (under another provider) and the mess you have to go through to get rid of it. Saving me from a virus, now that is priceless. ;-) Take care.........Gunny |

One of my e-mail accounts is opera free version and i have never had any spam but it is quite slow.
