For the last few weeks I have been trying to find the most efficient search engine. By instigating searches for obscure or esoteric subjects, I have tried to find the best. When I first started I was not aware of the many hundreds of search engines that exist.
Some amusing results emerged;in a search for Thorium hydrate Mamma Search Engine suggested that a related search should be carried out in the Jewish Chronicle. At the moment, I have a clear winner in Google, which is fast and comprehensive. Does anyone have any that are better? |

I like google. I like it even better now that I've downloaded and installed the Google toolbar. I no longer have to go to the site to do a search. If installed with the advance options tho, this becomes spyware. I installed without the advanced options.

Google gets my vote too. A while back, I tried searching for different subjects using several search engine and a search agent ... Google was the clear winner.

Here's one with a different approach
Check out http://www.dogpile.com
I know its a very ignominious name, but it basically searches all other search engines and gives u the top few hits [including google]. Its very rare that one delves very deep into the hits of a search engine, this is perfect. As their credo says .. all result no mess

Google is the one. Hopefully it will stay that way. It is made the way a search engine should be, no ads, white screen, ready to search.

Metacrawler, ( not Webcrawler)
I've used regularly the above mentioned: Google, Dogpile, etc. I still use them, but only if I can't locate it in MetaCRAWLER.
