Bcs
you gotta feel for the USC trojans. #1 in both human polls but standing on the outside when it comes to the national championship.

Just because they aren't playing on Jan 4th, doesn't mean they can't be the National Champs. The National Championship is still voted on regardless of who wins the BCS game. If USC beats U of M, as far as I'm concerned, they are #1.

Like it says on the ESPN website, we may again see two teams tied for national champ. Personally, I hope Oaklahoma rebounds from last nites debacle and spanks LSU by about 3 touchdowns. Sabin left Michigan State to go to LSU and it wasn't pretty when he left. Don't want him to win.

Sorry Mboss, but I don't feel for them; I'm from So. Cal and I'm an SC fan. But you know what? They've got nobody to blame but themselves because they didn't take care of business when they got beat by Cal. (Yeah, that's right, Cal!)

I would like to see a split national champ this year. The BCS is supposed to prevent a split championship but if we get one it will reveal the BCS as a failure.
I agree Ron that they should've beat Cal, but Oklahoma should have beaten Kansas St. and LSU should've beaten Florida. Any of the 3 could've been left out but in my opinion they should all have an opportunity to play for it through some type of play-off.

Until they have a playoff system, there will never be a true National Champion. Div. I-AA, Div. II and Div. III all have playoff systems. It doesn't hurt their student athletes. My word, those schools aren't allowed as many scholarships as Div. I yet they have no problems settling the issue of who's number one on the field.

SV, it is true that there is still a vote, but only the AP/Writers Poll. The coaches MUST vote for the winner of the BCS Championship game. So even if the coaches wanted to vote for USC if they are to beat Michigan, they can't. I'm not an SC fan, but I still think they should be in the NC because they are the #1 team and deserve to be. The only positive on the whole thing is that it might help to change, or get rid of the BCS system.

HEY HEY HEY,
Come on now. They get the honor of playing the greatest football team of all time, the Michigan Wolverines. This will be a great first meeting between two powerhouse schools. Of course USC will soon realize that THEY should be #4. GO BLUE! |

There is no doubt that Michigan is a great team, and it will be a tough game for SC. SC might lose to Michigan, they might beat them, but the point is still that the #1 team in both the Coaches and AP polls is not in the so called National Championship game.

Sleepy, by "first meeting" do you mean this year? Cuz they've played each other 6 or 7 times previously in the Rose Bowl. The matchup to watch is the USC passing game vs UofM secondary. After the catch, USC is deadly, but I'm still a home team rooter! GO BLUE!!

Quote:
1990: USC 17, Michigan 10 (Rose Bowl) 1989: Michigan 22, USC 14 (Rose Bowl) 1979: USC 17, Michigan 10 (Rose Bowl) 1977: USC 14, Michigan 6 (Rose Bowl) 1970: USC 10, Michigan 3 (Rose Bowl) 1958: Michigan 20, USC 19 (reg. season) 1958: Michigan 16, USC 6 (reg. season) 1948--Michigan 49, USC 0 (Rose Bowl) That's a 4-4 record. But there is one other Michigan School that has a similar record against USC: 1990: Michigan State 17, USC 16 (John Hancock Bowl) 1988: Michigan State 20, USC, 17 (Rose Bowl) 1987: Michigan State 27, USC, 13 (reg. season) 1978: USC 30, Michigan State 9 (reg. season) 1972: USC 51, Michigan State 6 (reg. season) 1967: USC 21, Michigan State 17 (reg. season) 1964: Michigan State 17, USC 7 (reg. season) 1963: USC 13, Michigan State 10 (reg. season) (Just had to throw that in as a Spartan fan.) Now Michigan is good, maybe better than their #4 rank. But USC is very good. And especially in bowl games, they are second only to Alabama in total victories in bowls: 25 - 15 for a .625 winning percentage. Michigan on the otherhand is 17 - 16 in bowl games for a .515 winning percentage. U/M will need a lot of luck. Dave. |

Panama Red, forget after the catch, did you see the grab the Williams made Saturday against Oregon State. That guy is ridiculous, he's as close as it gets to unstoppable at the wideout spot.

You mean the one-handed, oh-my-gosh-look-what-I-found catch? Yeah, I saw it, over and over and over......
Actually pretty spectacular. The way it stuck to his glove reminded me of Lester Hayes of the Oakland Raiders in the old days with pitch dripping off his hands. All he had to do was get close and the interception was his!! |
