The link has been pretty well defined. It seems that this animal carries the virus.
But there hasn't been, so far as I have seen, any attempt to understand the evolutionary niche that it occupies or what effect their eradication will have. |

Think it's a misnomer to consider these critters "cats" as we in the US know cats. They're a relative of the mongoose and look like a weasel. Hardly the domestic or wild cats of the US. Destroying the source of SARS is similar to destroying the cattle that have the potential to spread "Mad Cow".

I have heard a raccoon-like omnivorous mammal of Mexico and the southwestern United States having a long bushy tail with black and white rings called a civet cat. They also stink, and are often raised for their scent glans for use in perfumes.
