Sorry I am just so excited. After 3 long, slow years of dial-up I found out yesterday that DSL is now available in my neighborhood, so I ordered. You would think that in the heart of the Silicon Valley (Campbell, CA) that high speed internet would be available everywhere, but you would be wrong until now. Sorry for the pointless post but I just had to share. I apologize to those still on dial-up.

Thanks Maroman, actually I forgot to mention I had DSL 3 years ago but lost it when I moved to a place which didn't have it. Having High speed then going back to dial-up sucks.

Markoman is spoiled.
I got DSL 3 years ago and verizon made me regret all of it for 6 months ( they also waived all charges for the year, yes it was that bad ). Now I have options ( cable showed up one year after DSL ) but Verizon is doing a stellar job ( and why did it take them so long? ) for now . For now I'm not changing, but I'm thinking about it. |

I can only dream of DSL or cable... My best bet for high-speed within the next five years seems to be a satellite system. Yikes...

I know how you feel puma, I just got my DSL a week ago, after several years of dial-up
. I don't know how I did it with dial-up for so long.

I remember when 56k came out and my connection speed jumped into the 40's - I figured nothing could ever top that except ISDN or T1. I then learned how to multilink 2 56k modems together and connect in the 70's. Now having DSL I figure once again I can't go any faster.

Oh sure, go ahead and rub it in, bigpuma! Just kidding! Still on dialup here, and like Kov-Ice said, my only forseeable option of high speed would be a satellite dish. Don't like their price per month though so I'll probably be sticking with my slow dialup crap for awhile.

Good for you! Hopefully there will be broadband in all neigborhoods soon. I was the first in my neighborhood to get cable because I am good friends with the owner of the cable company. According to tests on DSLreports.com I broke a speed record with 5 MB/sec down and 2 MB/sec up. Hood Canal Communications is one of the fastest ISPs in the countyr. I could never go back to dial up.

Funny lately. The isp here at the cafe came and gave us 1088 up and down (dsl) for free if we let them advertise a service here.
Then I got free T1 (an honest to god commercial T1) for my game server. You would think I had a nice connection at home to connect to all this goodness. Nope. Not even any.

I feel the dial-up blues; I just came back from christmas vacation, where I was limited to dial-up and dropped off the face of the (virtual) planet. After a taste of broadband I could only tolerate it long enough to get email.

DSLreports.com
2004-01-13 22:47:56 EST: 1013 / 62 Your download speed : 1013515 bps, or 1013 kbps. A 123.7 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 62305 bps, or 62 kbps. Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier! im about 500 miles from the server I used so this is not all bad. |

The specs were always better On someone else's computer You dream about going Comcast But that is a big mistake Just look at the page around you See how fast it loads Such wonderful threads surround you What more is you lookin' for? DSL DSL Darling it's faster Not a disaster Take it from me The Dialup loads all day High speed games you can play While we're being lazy They're going crazy with DSL. PICKLEDCHICKEN! |
