Pc!!!

What exactly is PC?? If any of you watch the latest serials (eg. FRIENDS), I believe you will notice that PC consists almost solely of making the male look stooooooopid and the female look gooooooooooooood.
Does anybody else agree with me, or is just the half-litre of whiskey talking??

I wouldn't use an episode of a pretty silly sitcom as a definition of anything other than what a silly sitcom is.

No, I don't think that's what PC is about. Maybe you need more whiskey to see.

PC or Politically correct comes down to, you can say anything about a white male, but all other people including sex or orientation is off limits.

For instance the term Illegal Alien which is a person who has violated U.S. Law in order to be in this country is not PC. The PC term is Undocumented person, which makes the person sound like a victim.

I believe all of you have not understood what I asked!!

What I mean is - does PC give you the right to act as though anyone that you may believe acted wrongly in context to your race/religion/sex/person can be insulted at any time in any manner you choose?
In other words, does PC give you the right to malign anyone you choose simply because you believe HE/SHE/THEY may have wronged you/your race/religion at sometime in the past (probably beyond common memory?).

What hurts is that there is a current attitude in the media that the male is always wrong, and the female is always right.

If there is a tendency to tell men to get in touch with their female side, why is there no tendency to tell women to ask what their men really want? Is it the feeling that all that men want out of a relationship is sex, and that men are incapable of any deeper feeling? Is there a tendency to reserve all finer feeling for the fairer sex?

Please let me know what you think.

PS: ALL EDITS SIMPLY FOR SPELLING MISTAKES, WHICH I CANNOT ABIDE.

I am not seeing this. What do you think is evidence of this bias?

I don't think PC has much to do with "getting back" at somebody, as you essentially say. It is more about accuracy and not making assumptions, at least at its core.

i have always believed that a person has a right to their own beliefs, an I will (per Voltaire) defend to the death their right to the same, but it is my belief that a deliberate malignation of a person based on a perceived historical insult is wrong.

I have found political correctness to be just stupid in many cases:

Can not call a Ship Her
Can not use the word God, use higher power.
This is just an example.

I had an English Instructor give me a big list of politically correct instances of the use for English. He only offerred it as a joke. I might still have it somewhere. He was british, and had a very good sense of humor.

Personally I think it is a bunch of hooey, and Americans are just too soft. I say get a grip on life and live in the real world.
I am not going to let some Women rights, Race Pity-Party-Activist, Anti-religious, or male bashing freak tell me what is right and wrong.

Hey, if you want to live in a sanitized godless uni-sex society feel free, but dont drag me into your pit of oblivion and endless woe. Instead of looking for an excuse, just embrace life and go for it. Life is hard for everyone, race religion and creed nothing to do with your troubles.

PS Get a grip on life and smell the Pizza!

Politically Correct (or PC) speech is a way to remove all negative emotional undertones to wording an phrasing to allow for accurate and unintentionally non-offensive communication.

Like anything, if taken too far, it can itself, take on negatively emotional undertones.

I think that's as good a definition as I have read. To me, it is just language that is neutral and doesn't assume anything about the speaker or listener, subject or object. It's language that is safe to use in situations where there is not familliarity. I see nothing wrong with that.

There are certain situations where politically correctness has its place. For example, say you are talking about a child who has serious mental problems. Instead of saying "oh, he's just retarded", you can say "He's mentally challanged". The PC way sounds less negative and insulting than just going out and saying "he's retarded".

There are times when PC goes too far. Case in point, the possible renaming of master/slave configurations of HDDs. That is just uncalled for. Nobody is being insulted or slandered in a direct way, nor an indirect roundabout way.

There are instances when the use of PC is better, but also times when it is so ridiculous, it's laughable.

my rule is treat others as you would like to be treated and if that is not PC then so be it.if someone is looking to be insulted they will, be no matter what you say.
