magnets

hey all,my 5 y/o son was at his mom's house today at put a maganet to the screen of the t.v. i know the two dont mix well at all.the screen is a rainbow color now.i told her to unplug it.is the t.v. toast or what?

Give it a day it will go back to normal, it should ive had that done a few times, and it alwayys went back to normal.

i know you can degauss a computer monitor but how bout a home t.v.?

The TV should degauss itself when turned on. But the tube's degaussing coil needs time to cool down - around 30 minutes. If it doesn't (and unfortunatly, many don't) the only way to fix it is with a degaussing ring. It's easy to make, but hard to use if you don't know what you are doing.

My suggestion would be to take it to a Best Buy and pay them their bench fee to degauss the set - if it doesn't degauss itself within 24 hours.

hey all,everything is o.k. 3 hours later and the t.v. works fine.thank god i didnt feel like giving her my 36 inch t.v. also found out he took the magnet to the computer monitor as well,but i told her via the phone how to degauss it and all is good. thanks everyone
