I attempted this on a brand new Maxtor drive. When I was through with the process it was a Fijitsu drive (or at least acted like one).

Still remember the first one I took a part. I did it when we upgraded to a larger drive and thought the old one was no longer usefull. Believe me when I was done it was not usefull for anything.

It's interesting how Hard Drive fortunes rise and fall. About 4 years ago the IBM Deskstar was regarded as possibly the best drive you could buy; and the most recommended on this forum. I installed several of them in machines back then with no problems. Now they're regarded as junk.
