Why did that happen?
About a week ago the number of email notifications from PC-Mech dropped dramatically. I thought it was just a slowdown in the traffic. I wasn't posting any less than normal but no one seemed to be replying. Then I started going to the threads that I had subscribed to and discovered that there were many replys but I hadn't been notified. I could not figure it out untill tonight when I thought of checking my Hotmail junk mail folder. All the PC-Mech emails have started going to junk mail all of the sudden. Why would it do that? I clicked "this is not junk mail" and I believe I solved the problem but why would it start doing that in the first place?
EDIT: This didn't just happen on this board but all message boards on which I use Email notification. I am really stumped now.

I don't know why it happened exactly but it did happen to me with some mail. My Girlfriend e-mailed me a simple e-mail entitled Fw-hw. The bulk mail sorter saw this as an advertisement and it was placed in there. I think it has something to do with the parameters that the particular e-mail server uses to try and determine what is junk mail or spam or bulk mail. Not knowing what is and isn't junk mail it seems the site has to rely on certain common pratices of junk mail senders and uses that as a guide to weed them out, but it is obviously not an exact science. Once you tell it that this is not junk mail you should not have any more problems with that particular e-mail. The downside is, where you used to be able to just hit empty my bulk, spam or junk mail folder without even opening it, now you should check to make sure that what is in there is in fact junk mail. The other option is to turn off the junk mail folder completely.

MS is starting to tighten up Hotmail. I get nowhere the number of junk mails that I used to get which indicates they are blocking them at the source. And like you, I have encountered several valid emails that were in the junk folder.
Personally I think this is a good thing. Chas

I have found that almost all of my emails from PCMech, whether it's the newsletter, or a notification of a reply, are being marked as bulk mail, which is quite annoying. That may be what you are experiencing.

i had one of the first pcmech newsletters in my yahoo bulk mail. i just clicked 'not spam' and its ok since. it has happened to reply notifications from other forums too, but i just click the not spam button.
maybe this means we can start dreaming of a bit more spam free world . even if it costs a few "casualties" along the way

I am getting notifications again from all my forums. I just clicked "this is not junk" on one message from each forum and it worked. I don't get any junk in my inbox and I never have.
