question about news commercials/radio ads
Why do candiates now say i am so and so and i approve this message, have the law changed or something?

Basically it's protecting the network or cable outlet from facing equal time laws. It also protects the candidate's party and how the ad is funded. But yes, the laws have changed...the candidate must say he/she approved of an ad that is not specifically paid for by the candidate or the candidate's election committee. That covers the equal time laws that are on the books.
