Messenger Pop Ups?

Win XP on a cable modem.

I'm getting an increasing number of pop ups which appear to be independant of the page I'm viewing, and despite using the Google pop up blocker and having Messenger Services disabled I'm still getting these annoyances.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to stop them?

Get Ad-aware and Spybot, free downloads, that should stop some of them. You can also get another pop up blocker such as FreeSurfer, which is also free, but I think these pop ups are probably associated with some spyware programs that are inside your system.

If your talking about the windows messenger pop-ups, you can disable the windows messenger. I don't remember exactly what to but, I think it's int he control panel under administrative tools/services

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
CS is right. Control Panel/Admin Tools (in classic view)/Services. Find Messenger/right click/properties/change setting to Disable/Apply.

As I said in my opening post, I already have Messenger Services disabled, but still they come through.

Karnevil9, thanks, I have downloaded and run Adaware and Spybot and will wait to see if they make any diff.

Will report back on results
