Myself when I started High school I went to a "Private associated with a religion" for 2.5 years, but wanted to graduate from a public high school.
Private school for not very expensive, non profit one. It was only 10 miles from my home, compared to the public High school which was 20 miles away. 10 and 20 miles don't seem like much, but in mountainous areas where you can only average 30 miles an hour that is a long ways. Changing had it plus and minus. Public diploma, but had I stayed at the private school, I would have been top in my class of 3 people. They had K-12 in one large room Which was about 60 students. I would not trade doing my high school the way I did looking back on it.

I went to the same schooll all my school years,
while I was in the grade school, they were building a new high school onto the same building, so by the time I graduated the class for the year of 1960 was 650 students, it was the newest and largest school in the city of detroit, and they tought you anything you ever wanted to know, it was a vocational type of high school. the best years of my life. |

Public all the way K-12. Same school too. Really small school though....my graduating class had 18 people in it. The whole school was right around 300 total.

Looks like I'm in the minority here... got a scholarship to go to my private school from 7-12. Was a really good school, 3rd in the state for Yr 12 schools academically, graduating class of 260
Before that, a small public school, graduating class of 18 |

public school k-12... actually i was like the 6th student to enroll in a brand new elementary school when i was going to start kindergarten... i went from a school built in the mid 80's, to one built in 1920 (junior high) to one built in the 1890's (high school). it got worse as i got older.

The divison of schools in the U.S. differs between schools. There is no uniform system. For example, I went to a K-6 grade school, 7-8 junior high, and 9-12 high school (but the junior high and high school were essentially one school). Other schools are K-4 grade school, 5-8 middle school, and 9-12 high school. Sometimes, 6-8 is middle school, or 7-9 is junior high. It's up to the schools and the school districts.

Take what you see on TV about U.S. schools with a grain of salt. My wife also learned about U.S. schools through television, and in reality, life here is not like 90210.

The law only requires you stay in school till 16, but it's highly desirable to graduate from high school, without that diploma your career avenues are seriously limited.
