Pinging
Is there a site to explain how to ping and use it?
Or can someone on the boards explain it. |

start > run
type in PING, followed by the IP or a website. Example: ping 192.168.0.1 If you don't want ping to quit after a couple of pings use the -t option. Example: ping 192.168.0.1. -t RJ

just type png at your command line and it will give you several options and explanations of what each does. Just dont forget to put an ip address after wards.
Try a few different commands out on your loopback (127.01) to get a feel for the command before you go ping any websites. Another command you will probably come across is tracert. this pings every device on the way to a website and gives you the ping statistics about them. Syntax of command : tracert (website or ip address such as google.com) |

Keep in mind too that pinging and doing trace routes on some sites on the Internet will fail since some block icmp requests.

I wish to thank all that answered my request about pinging. You have provided me enough information to keep me busy for several weekends.
Thanks, Bill |
