To start with... greetings.

Hi 'Mech peeps,

Since my trusty ol' PC died last week (can't complain after 4+ yrs service I guess), I have spent several nights trawlin' the net with a view to replacing it. It just occurred to me I've been reading various threads at PCmech for so long I no longer have idea how I got here, at least 3/4 hrs *chuckle. Y'all seem to be a friendly and knowledgeable bunch, so I figured I'd register an' pick yer brains.

I have been looking around for a site to build me a PC, though looking around here buildin' my own does look fun. I know enuf to know I know jack-all. Prolly not enuf to to start asking serious questions so for now I'm saying, "hi" the questions will follow (think I'll spend some more time reading previous posts.. tomorrow.. my head has hit saturation point for now).

With that said, I welcome any suggestions regarding where to start learning. I'm in the fortunate position (?) of having too much time on my hands atm. A noob I maybe, but I like to think fairly quick to take things onboard. Oh, and while newegg.com does seem a nifty site they don't export outside the US/Peurto Rico, and alternatives for a humble Brit?

My compliments to those that started this site and continue to keep it so healthy.

B seein' yer

luv Gore.

Hi Gore, welcome to the Mech!
One thing I always like to say to noobs is don't be afraid to ask any question just because you think it's stupid. There's no such thing as a stupid question, believe me, I know. I asked plenty of 'em when I first started here and thought "Man, I'm gonna get blasted for asking that!", but nope, it wasn't that way. I think you'll find this is one of the very few places on the internet that you can ask a question and not worry about getting flamed in response....or, if you do, that flaming member probably will get a warning or not be around much longer to do it again. So, jump in and start asking away!
