Cool Chatting - AIM/ICQ/MSN/Y!?

Hey,

This is not a question, but rather a poll. The other day, after Trillian just crashed as it usually does every once a week, I was wondering what type of instant messaging you PC Mechers use. I know that in certain regions, MSN is popular while in others, AIM is common - hence, my asking.

I use Trillian Pro (paid version) and use AIM, Y!, and ICQ, though almost 100% AIM (multiple SNs). I am also aware than there were polls like this in the past but it would be interesting to see new members and stuff with new services .

Thanks,
kram

I have Trillian for ICQ, AIM and IRC, but I prefer to use the actual programs for Yahoo and MSN. Thinking of ditching ICQ completely as nobody uses it anymore.. and if that's the case... I'll download AIM and mIRC and ditch Trillian.

What exactly is IRC? I've heard stuff about mIRC and stuff and I've heard they are used to do "KaZaa 2"...which I am not interested in. I also hear there is a IRC channel for PC Mech (#pcmech) but Trillian's still having a bit of trouble configuring to it...

And the crashing part - might be because it's on a laptop with 1.2 celeron, 256 SDRAM, and WinXP - not muc system resources to use .

Thanks,
kram

The only one I use is Yahoo Messenger. I used to also use ICQ but gave that up. The only one I have on Yahoo Messenger is my ex-fiance. She is the only reason I still have it. Even though we aren't together any more, we are still very good friends.

I also use IRC to talk on #pcmech

IRC = Internet Relay Chat ... just another chat program.. not so much for one on one, but for a room with several people at once.

Trillian should run fine on that setup... I've run it on a lot less.

Trillian as I hate lots of icons in the system tray and it also has the best smileys of them all.

LOL Nuke. Leave it to you to pick a client based on the smilies .

I use AIM and IRC. AIM to chat with my friends, and IRC to chat with the PCM buddies.

EDIT: Guess I should have included this . I use AIM and mIRC.

I use Yahoo Messenger 6 for my main chat program and ICQ as my secondary.

The only problem I have with the new Yahoo Messenger 6 is Yahoo didn't get rid if the ads. I suppose I can use Trillian to solve that problem but I just use another small program to take them out all together.

Cheers

Ummm... what Yahoo ads.. the only ads I see are in group chats.. no big deal.. don't use it much anyway.

As for Trillian smileys... the part that sux about it is half the time the smileys don't match with the actual program and you often just get the code back...looks stupid. Trillian was OK.. but I'm going back to the originals.

I should of been more specific, the ads happens when you first sign into Yahoo group chat and in the group chat area at the bottom of the chat screen. There was a bug don't know if there still is in the new Yahoo messenger. When you logged into the group chat area over a period of time the ads would take up almost the whole chat screen. It was a known problem and a pain in the butt that I know many people had.

All of my contacts are on AIM, so I use AIM. If I need to use yahoo once in a while, I do.

I also use mIRC daily.

As for trillian and ICQ, tried both for a little while, but didn't care for them much.

As much as I traditionally despise AOL in general (and I do), I have been using AIM for a long time. Originally used ICQ, but switched to AIM about 5 years ago because it was just so much easier and user-friendly.

i use trillian, but i sad aim in the poll cause thats all i really use it for. Everyone i know uses aol but trillian runs a lot better. For some reason my aim client kept on crashing every other time i started it up so i just unistalled it and use trillian. Its way cooler anyways.

I mainly use YM, sometimes AIM. But I've heard a few bad things about AIM, none that I've experienced with it yet though. But my vote is for YM.

I put Trillian, because you couldn't click both ICQ and MSN, even though I don't use that program as I've have troubles in the past.
ICQ is useful in my situation in the military, as you can leave people messages, but MSN for talking to friends at home

Personally, I like Trillian because of its versatility. It also isn't as annoying as some of the other programs. Smiley are great too.
