Harry Potter

My gal bud says I gotta rent the first 2 movies and watch them so will understand this latest. She says something about understanding the "verbiage". Opinions? She's a Harry freak evidently.

Yes, I agree. You will probably need to watch the first two movies to understand what the heck is going on.

Give us a review Sarge! I have been thinking about watching them myself so I can see what all the Hype is about.

you can go here and catch up on the characters:

http://www.eonline.com/Features/Feat...SorcererSpeak/

Quick synopsis so far:

Harry is sent to live with relatives who hate/afraid of him becuase he is a wizard. he goes to wizard school (Hogwarts) and meets to good friends (Ron and Hermione), earns an enemy or two (Draco Malfoy), is looked upon with great awe or hatred by his teachers (not well liked by Prof Snape). harry discovers an innate sport talent for quiddich (wizards soccer/polo). Crosses swords with the Voldemort (once in each story) and learns more and more about the tangled web of intrigue regarding voldemort, his returning to life and his followers.

Key characters:

Harry
Ron - Friend of Harry
Hermione - Friend of Harry

Wow, mbossman! About 600 pages of book or 5 hours of movie boiled down into a single paragraph. Quite accurately summed up as well.

I enjoy the movies and my wife is crazy about the books and the movies. She tells me that she thinks I will like this one even more than the first two. I figure if I take her to see it I might have a chance to take part in a Sarge-type exercise plan.

The books are a fun read - and both of the first two are shorter than the next three. Wonderful humor in the first, especially. The first two movies are so close to the books that watching them will do just about as well - with the advantage that you already know which actor is playing which character.

All the used bookstores have the paperbacks - you can read one in a longish evening, no problem.

I was a lit major in college, and I have a lot of respect for the author of the Potter books. How she could write so well so early in her writing career is just amazing. Might take a look just to see . . .

I never really got into the Harry Potter craze. Lord of the Rings was pretty cool though.

Never got into it either. Watched the first movie- it was so-so. Never went near the books; not my cup of tea. I'll say this though- the graphics on the new game look stunning. Only saw the commercial; would like to get a better look.

I was at a book signing several years ago and the author(a well respected, highly acclaimed award winning author no less) made the statement that JK Rowling's 1st 2 books were "extremely well written (I agree)...maybe too well written". Unfortunately he stopped the Q&A before I could explore that comment.

Piece of cake. Take vitamins, drink lots of Red Bull, ride a bike 50 miles a week, send flowers weekly and Viagra for icing on the cake.

Just saw Prisoner of Azkaban. Excellent movie. Better then the other two, and excellent special effects.

I've just gotten back from seeing the third one as well. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but there were a few things that seemed odd to me. I don't want to be a spoiler so I won't say anything at this point.

I buy the Potter books when they come out in paperback and I buy the DVDs, so, yeah, I'm a fan.
Enjoy it all, it's a great chance for the 'grownups' to be silly and no one will notice, except your 8 year old.
But he has to growup sometime, right ?

Not really you can just watch the first one and you're all set.

Saw the third one. Emma's getting cute.
