Rate my Card

I dont know too much about comps but im reading a lot of posts here and trying to absorb as much as i can. Anyways, i recently built my comp and i have a video card that i need rated. Note: this is not an ATI vs Ge Force thread!

So heres my card

nVidia EVGA GeForce 256MB FX 5700 LE

I just want to know where it stands...what games it can and cant play, its limitations...etc. But i really want to know if itll be able to play Doom 3...

Thx

Hey,

Well, first of all, I would point out it's a LE - Light Edition. It's kinda like ATI's "SE" classification - Second Edition. To the ATI equivelant, I think it stands around the ATI Radeon 9600 - 128-bit and 256 onboard DDR memory. It seems to be DX9 with a decent core and memory speed.

Now onto the question - I think with OpenGL1.4 and DirectX9, you should be able to run Doom3 with a level of restriction but still decently at non-full settings. Without terribly high memory speed (400), though, you're not going to be able to run high setting very smoothly - if any.

Hope that helps,
kram

Before you buy another card, just try what you have - it may well be satisfactory. You can always upgrade later - the longer you put that off, the better the card you can get for the money.
