New speakers

Can anyone recommend a 3 speaker system that will be use primarily for driving games.
I presently have a Altec Lansing 4.1 system and it sounds nice but my desktop space is limited and I would prefer to go to a 2.1 setup.

I would also like to have headphone jack (headpiece and mike) connections and controls on one of the two desktops units.

Preferred price range is $75 - &100

Any suggestions are appeciated.

I've had good luck with the Logitech speakers. My son has these Z-340's and prefers the sound to his stereo system.

Logitech doesnt' list the Z-340's on their site anymore so I suspect this is the replacement.

They still have the Z-340's at Newegg. Since I haven't heard the other ones and the 340's are what prompted the purchase of my Z-640's I recommend the Z-340's.

Since Creative Labs also makes some good sounding speakers, I might take a look at the Creative Inspire 2.1 T2900 speaker system - 2.1 configuration. It's pretty powerful, looking at the specs. It's a little on the expensive side - 45 USD. And also, it's currently not available at Newegg.

Hope that helps,
kram

I recently heard those Creatives along side Z-340's at Circuit City and the Z-340's blew them away. The 340's have much better clarity and the highs are MUCH better. The Logitech sub is also much better than the one on the Creative T2900's. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's however, blew them all away but they are about $150. If you can afford them they are the best you can get for the money.

I think it's fair to say that there are two levels of speakers - high end and middle range speakers. The middle range speakers include Logitechs, Creative Labs, Altec Lansing, and stuff like that. The High end include Klipsch (very popular and expensive), Bose, and Harman Kardon / JBL (my recommendation). The high end tend to never have anything in the two digit range, unless if they are 2.1 configurations, in which case they rarely are.

Hope that helps,
kram

Thanks a bunch for all the input folks. I appreciate it a bunch.

Heres is where I ended up. Went on line searching for Altec, Logitec, and Creative Labs.

Found Logitechs Z-2200 which most stores have at $149.00USD. I found them at Amazon.com for 110. and free shipping, no tax (out of state)

Before I ordered I went to a local store that had them set up and must say they were impressive. 400 Watts of window breaking power, nice quality, should be fine.

Thanks again
