I would normally take the ATI but smart shader 3 for Doom 3 had pretty much got me hooked. I'd say if you're more interested in HL2 though get the ATI. Either way you won't be disapointed.

Depends on what types of games you're going to play - some games play better with ATI, some others play better with nVidia. In this case, I'd be impartial - I'd say both would work very nicely. I just have a slight preference of ATI because it uses far less energy, and only takes up less room.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either one, but I chose nVidia.

My videocard history:

ATi 3D Rage Pro 1 or 2 MB onboard (Don't remember)
to
S3 Trio 8MB (don't ask why)
to
nVidia GeForce 2 Mx 32 MB
to
nVidia GeForce 4 Mx 64 MB
to
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
to
nVidia Geforce 6800 GT 256 MB

Radeon X800 Pro should be better on those games, but by an unnoticible difference. However, games like Doom3 are better off with the GeForce 6800, which has sweet OpenGL support.

Hope that helps,

I go with ATI's 800x just because I have more experience with ATI cards. Right now I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB and the thing runs killer in Counter-Strike. But isn't like ATI better with DX9 and Nvidia better with OpenGL or other way around I don't remember?

Correct. I'd used ATI once before and it has amazed me too, at what a mainstream ATI Radeon 9600 Non-Pro can offer - wait till ya see what a Radeon X800 has to say about that .

Well yes, you can play it in both OpenGL and DX9.
