Radeon 9800 Pro... ATI or Sapphire?
I was looking around in Best Buy with my friends today and I decided to look at the computer section... in there i saw the amazing ATI Radeon 09800 Pro.... for $180.00 (on sale of course).
This got me thinking about my card that im thinking of getting... THe Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro... at Newegg.com for $195.00... I was wondering if these two things are the same? and if they arent then would i be able to use the one from best buy in my pending comp (ill show the specs at the end) If they are the exact same card.. then im gonna go out and try to get the one at best buy... My current specs are: Case Cooler Master Centurion 2 Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case, Model "CAC-T02-UW" - $29.99 Motherboard ASUS "P4P800-E Deluxe" i865PE Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU -RETAIL - $112.00 Video Card SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -BULK -OEM - $195.00 Power Supply Enlight ATX 360W P4 Power Supply, Model "EN-8361934A1" -RETAIL - $32.00 CPU Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512K Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - Retail - $179.00 RAM Kingston ValueRAM Dual Kits 184 Pin 512MB(256MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - $94.00 Hard Drive Western Digital 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD1600JD, OEM Drive Only – $108.00 Keyboard/Mouse Microsoft Black Multimedia Keyboard & Wheel Mouse Optical Bundle PS/2 102keys -OEM - $33.00 Monitor KDS XF-7BK 17" Xtreme Flat CRT Monitor –RETAIL - $95.00 Optical Drives NEC 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive, Model ND-2510A SVR, OEM - $79.99 Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack SP1a - OEM - $90.00 Thanks for the help guys, Jason

don't worry about the brand, Sapphire is usually cheaper then the ATI, but that Bestbuy deal is real good. Just relieze that you are taxed on the $250, and you have to wait for the rebates. So you will save a few dollars getting it from bestbuy, but not as much as you think. People have had trouble finding that 9800 pro at bestbuy, just to let you know.

It will be compatable, no worries. You may have heard in the past ATI had compatability issues and bad drivers, but that is no longer the case. Go for it!

Go with the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro - no hestiation in that. One's a retail, the other isn't, though it makes little difference, it's still better.

Nothing wrong with it at all, shouldn't have any problems with it (if you do you can always post here for help
). Thats a pretty nice deal, maybe I'll look into it. Thanx.

Yea I would suggest to get the ATi retail card from best buy than the sapphire card from newegg also. Thats a good deal.

Make sure it's 256 bit. Double and triple check that one.

I belive that the only 128 bit 9800 pro that was made was by Sapphire, the one at best buy will be 256-bit. However, Sapphire discontinued the 128-bit card they made, and also issued an apology for doing so. The only place that you really have to worry about getting a 128-bit 9800 pro is from places like ebay.

There are no ATI Radeon 9800 Pros with 128-bit buswidth. Sapphire released it initially for a miniscual amount of time, before people started complainint about its being desceptive...I would have too. It's a Radeon 9600XT clocked lower, but with 8 pipelines. Since then, they renamed it the Sapphire Radeon 9800 - non-pro, of course.
Hope that helps, kram |
