ATI Radeon 9800XT 256MB VS ATI Radeon X800 Pro

I am considering upgrading from the 9800XT to the new X800. When I play Halo online it seems at 1200x1600 the framerate drops below 30 FPS at times down to maybe 20 FPS. I hear the new X800 runs Halo at 60 FPS and better. My monitor is good for 60 FPS at best..and you cant see above 60 FPS anyway...so a card which never drops Halo below 60 FPS would be perfect.

Has anyone had any experience with the new X800 card?...especially with Halo?

Price is not a great concern. The new X800 can be purchased for around $400 on pricegrabber versus selling the old 9800XT used for around 250 to 300 bucks. I just want to make sure I am getting a noticable performance jump before I play doctor on my computer.

Thanks

It's usually about 30FPS+ where you can't see much of a difference (reel films are usually 24FPS).

If you dropped your resolution a notch, you would get a better framerate.

The Radeon X800 Pro is a completely different generation card - it has 12 pipelines, and GDDR3 memory. If you're going to jump and price isn't a big concern, I might recommend you look into the Radeon X800 XT...which is out of stock for a while right now.

Hope that helps,
kram

Uggh....How do I delete a post? I don't see an option for this.

Thanks...I did not realize there are 2 different X800 cards. I think I will wait for the faster of the two to get back in stock. I came across a review which showed the faster card doubling (woo hoo!) the framerate of Halo.
