Problem with newly installed ATI TV Wonder VE

Hey guys,

just bought an ATI Wonder VE for my computer (I'm running Windows 98SE with Direct X 8.1, and my vid card is an ATI Radeon 64 meg). I had a bit of trouble installing it, but finally managed to figure everything out, once I downloaded and re-installed newer drivers from the ati website.

The problem is this. After I install the drivers & restart the computer after, the card works fine. However, afterward, if I shutdown the computer and start it again, or restart it for some reason, the TV card (or rather the TV viewer application) doesn't work. I get an error message saying that I should check the Windows Device Manager to see if the drivers are properly installed. Simply put, I have to reinstall the drivers everytime I shutdown the computer.

That's not all. The same problem occurs whenever I play a computer game (which, I believe, uses Direct3D). When I finish playing and quit the game, and try to watch TV, I get the same error message.

So obviously, the card is working fine. I'm thinking I have a conflict between my TV Wonder drivers and my Radeon drivers, or something like that. Might also be something else. I was wondering if you guys might know a way to resolve that annoying problem (other than uninstalling all the drivers for both the TV Wonder and the Radeon).

Thanks!!

Cool

Sorry I cain't be of help. I had a TV Wonder VE and after a year using both WIN98 and XP I gave up and tossed it in the trash pile. I got a AIW and all is well. If you cain't get the problem resolved I've read some good things on this forum about Leadtek.

Hm, well, I hope I get the problem resolved because appart from that, everything looks great.
I was wondwering, I recently updated my Bios. Could this be causing any conflict? There is an option in a bios that says "Video Bios Cacheable" or something like that. It is set on "Enabled". Could this have a link with my problem, or am I looking too far?

thanks!

wait.... you didnt delete your radeon drivers?!/!?!

You MUST delete your old video cards drivers before installing more. You should find a program that deletes your old drivers or do it manually

Great to help.....8raker

8raker,

well, the TV Wonder is not a video card, so the still Radeon needs to be installed. However, I did have a bit of trouble while installing the TV wonder, so that could be it... might have messed up the drivers. As a side note, while running the pc check provided by ATI, I got the following results:

Quote:
WDM devices INF file not installed.

WDM devices are not listed in registry.

WDM devices are not loaded or enumerated by the device manager.

WDM devices are not registered with DirectShow

Explanation: There is a problem with the WDM drivers. TV and video capture must have these components.
Does that sound like driver conflict??? (sure sounds like it)...

Do you know of any good software to remove the drivers?

thanks!!!
