Radeon video cards which one is best?

Hi

I am thinking of purchasing a Radeon video card to put in my P4 2.8 gig... Os Xp pro


1)ATI Radeon 8500 64MB DDR AGP DVI/TV
OR
2) ATI Radeon 9200SE 128MB Game Buster

I KNOW THE 8500 CAME OUT IN 2000, which is the better card of the two above.

The 9200SE...but are you a gamer? That card won't cut it if you plan to game with it.

Yup, I agree with GForce64. Go with the 9200se. You will probably not be able to play any games made in the last couple years with either card, so I would suggest going with the newer technology that the 9200se has over the 8500. Both cards are poor performers in games.

I plan to play some games yes. I noticed that the 8500 Ati radeon datona card was more expensive which came out in 2000.

No way. The 8500 is a much better card than the 9200SE, it even outperforms the 9600SE. With a 64-bit interface the 9200SE cant get too far. BTW ram size does not matter at all, in fact the 64mb 8500 gets slightly higher frame rates than the 128mb 8500.

I actually still use a Radeon 8500, although I plan on upgrading when I have the money.
The Radeon 8500 is a very good card, and has served me quite well for over 4 years. I spend most of my time surfing the net, playing online flash and shockwave games, watching DVD and DivX video, and running other Windows Media. The card has worked virtually flawlessly for me in these respects. It also allows me to play some cool games (even if some jumpiness and crashes weren't absent with the newer releases) such as Morrowind, Jedi KOTOR, and GTA Vice City. Obviously, however, it won't cut it with the newest games. For example, I attempted to play Thief: Deadly Shadows last night to see how far I could push the card, but not surprisingly there were problems. I will have to reinstall drivers to even have a chance of the game running on my system.


I hope that gives you an idea of the Radeon 8500's capabilities so that you can make a better decision!

I agree. If you are going with a budget card get the Radeon 9600, it runs every game out. Its performance is not the best but it is not bad either, still I would save up until I could afford a 256-bit card.
