Media Card Suggestion
I am trying to convert my wife's old gymnastics VHS tapes over to DVD - what media card does everyone recommend for this?

Its the Dark Side!

Im using an ATi TV Wonder VE Card. along with the CATV input, it also has an RCA composite video input, which is good for connecting to the video out of a VCR. Its not the greatest AV/TV Tuner card, but IMO, its good for somebody on a budget. I heard that Leadtek makes some pretty good AV/TV Tuner cards.

Don't know what vid card your running now, but if it's an older one, then you might want to consider something like the AIW 9800 Pro -- a perfect "excuse" to upgrade

I suggest you to capture in AVI files and then convert them to MPG-2 with some encoder like TMPGEnc, the use nero vision express or some other software to create the DVD files, it takes longer but will give you the best possible results than capturing form VHS to DVD files in real mode.
