radeon 9800 pro vs radeon 9800 pro

hi, if someone could answer this for me that would b great.

there are some radeon 9800 pro graphics cards that say this:

Radeon 9800 pro agp 128mb

others say this:

Radeon 9800 pro agp 256mb

do the mega bytes mean anything? which one is better? are these the same cards? thanks

If everything is identical between the two cards except for he amount of videao memory then the larger memory will be slighty faster in some situations, mainly when there is a lot of action that must be rendered by the card.

If you have a larger screen 19+ inches using high resolutions and are playing the latest games on an otherwise top notch machine then you might 'see' an impact of the larger memory, but if not then you would very likley only be able to 'test' the better results with benchmarking tools.

which one is better? see above, but technically the larger memory is 'better'

are these the same cards? except for the memory installed. You will find that different makers of the card clock the core speed slightly differently but generally about 380 Mhz and then the memory will be clocked around 680 Mhz. Also check the cards buswidth (128 bit or 256), and pipes once again larger is better, check out his site for more info:

Super_Rip, let me put it this way. The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB, though twice the vRAM, uses DDR2, which is a bit slower than the 128MB version. So in other words, the extra RAM in fact counterbalances the fact that it's slower...but not the 50 USD price difference. My recommendation is that if both of them are 256-bit buswidth, get the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB VPU (Sapphire, MSI, ATI, anything, really).

depends what rez you want to play on. on lower resolutions the 128mb's faster speed would be more benificial. however, on higher a higher rez the 256mb's better vram will far surpass the 128mb's capabilities

like kramm said, 256mb versions use slower memory, which actually slow down the speed of the card. what you want to look at is the bus. get the 256bit one, as that is where you will see your main differences

Definately one of the best buys out there right now - 200 USD for a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB 256-bit, the price to performance ratio has never been better.
