Help with D-sub message

Greetings All,

I've just connected up my new system -- and to my surpise and pleasure everythings seems to be working -- EXCEPT.

When I open certain programs (WORD and SAMSUNG disk) the monitor Samsung 997df, begins to shut off and then come back on and then shut off and then ... you get the idea. This repeats every 15 seconds or so. When it comes back on the monitor is displaying the "d-sub" icon in the middle of the screen. The Samsung site is of no value.

My video card is Asus 9800 pro. Others programs work fine. For now it just seems to be MS WORD and the Samsung information disk. If you know what the problem is, please let me know. If you know what "d-sub" is, that would be helpful too. Is "d-sub" suposed to be set a certain way on the monitor setup menu?

Thanks for the help,
GM

D-sub is the type of video cable connector; most common today are the HD-15 D-sub and the DVI type connector. D-subs are generally blue and DVI are white. As for the on-off deal, try to update your video card drivers.

Thanks for the idea.
I update my ATI 9800 pro driver -- but to no avail. I can do almost everything on the computer except use the actual progams. Everything installs just fine, I can look at files -- but as soon as I try to use a program the monitor crahes and the d-sub message comes on the screen and the monitors stats a 15 cycle of shutting off and restarting. If I close the progam and return to the desktop the monitor stablizes and everything is fine again.

Since this is a new build would:
Flashing BIOS help? or
Would updating XP help?

Thanks for your help.
