Lost sound from rear speakers.
Just hoping there's something I missed before I condem the sound card:
The card (Audigy 2 Platinum) was working fine and then lost rear sound. I checked the speaker settings (as they can change on "their own.") and it was set to "Headphones" (!??). Switch them back to 4.1, and still no rear sound. I swapped the speaker jacks, and now the sound comes from only the rear speakers, no sound from the front, which makes the speakers good to go. Ran Creative diag utility, no problems as well as DXDIAg, no problems. Also checked the fader settings in the mixer, and it's OK. Any ideas, I hope ?? |

Did you check the Creative speaker settings, or the speaker settings in Windows?

Once mine lost my 6.1 settings (and wouldn't let me turn it back). I reinstalled the software and drivers and I got 6.1 sound againm, I am using a Audigy 2 ZS so it's not identical to yours but I imagine it is pretty similar.

Hi Alienware Dude. I checked in the Creative settings. Don't even know how to get to the Windows settings of hand...
![]() Hi WhatsThisBoxFor. Mines also the Audigy 2 ZS, but Creative's software is a bear to un-re-install, so I figured that would be the last resort before condeming the card. |

On the Volume Tab under Speaker Settings click Advanced. Make sure you have the proper Speaker Setup. Then under the Audio tab, make sure the Creative Software is in each drop down box, and last, in the Hardware Tab, check to see if your card is listed and if it's working properly. (although you can't always believe it ) Also, I believe some of Creative's cards and/or software have an option called CMSS 3D. If you have it, enable it if it's not already. Hth e.n.

New Info!
Yes, CMSS is on, and I found the settings and so I explored a lot.
I did find some more "clues" and a workaround for the problem, but no actual fix, yet. While playing with the settings, I unchecked the "Mute speakers when playing headphones." - Did the sound test in the Creative Mixer, and all four speakers reported as they should. I turn back on the Mute w/headphones, and lost the two rear speakers again. I haven't used headphone on the front drive, but I put in a jack for testing: the front speakers do not turn off as they should. So, I'll let the Mute unchecked until the problem is figured out. Any more ideas?? |
