Wireless Headphones
I had an idea today. I have always been a night owl. I always keep other people in the house awake with the TV, music, etc. I thought, "hey! wireless headphones would be perfect!" Well I have been researching and have narrowed it down to two models. My budget is around $100. Here they are:
Sennheiser RS-120 Sony MDR-RF960RK I have always been a Sennheiser fan but I am split between these two. I can't find much info on either. I have found a couple reviews on the Sennheisers and they got good marks. I have not found any reviews on the Sony's but from what I can find they are supposed to have a 15 hour battery life while I have read the Sennheisers last 4 hours. I want the best sound quality I can afford as I will be listening to music as well as watching TV. Any suggestions/opinions are welcome. I'd like to get some as soon as possible. I'll probably be heading over to BestBuy sometime this week.

Ummm.... I just linked to two sets. I'm going to connect them to my reciever, not my PC. Though I could connect it to my PC just as easily. I'm just looking for suggestions on which one to get out of those two.

Does anyone else have any ideas? After finally finding some reviews of the Sony model they aren't very appealing. There were consistant complaints about audio quality and trouble getting them on the charger correctly. Now, one would think that would make me want the Sennheiser's for sure. The problem is that they don't look comfortable. They are just a flat "on top of the ear" design and they don't look very padded. The Sony's have a cup design that look really comfortable. Any other recommendations would be nice.

The Sennheiser RS110 and RS120 have open-air designs - it's not that uncomfortable as long as the headphones are lightweight.
The RS85 is their top-of-the-line wireless headphone - closed-air, very light and great sound. And at $270, they should be all that and maybe more. Look around for the RS45 and RS65 - same design as the RS85 but more affordable. Dave. |

They have the RS45's HERE at Crutchfield but they look like they have the same design as the 120's. I think I will be going to Best Buy/Curcuit City/GoodGuys soon but I don't know if they let you try out headphones there. I have never seen them on display anyway. Do you think the RS45's are a better deal than the RS 120's? Do you have any idea on the battery life of those two models? It isn't mentioned anywhere. The Sony's claim a 24 hour battery life but that seems unlikely. I plan on using them for rather long periods of time so good battery life is a must. I also noticed that the RS45's use a proprietory battery pack. The RS 120's use standard NiMh or alkaline AAA batteries. That's another sticking point.

I bought the Sennheiser RS-120's. After trying them out in the store I new they were the ones. Sound quality is excellent and the 300ft range claim certainly is acurate. They worked across the entire store full of electronics with no interference. They work just as good here at home. No interference even when I'm across the street. I bought them at TheGoodGuys. The last one they had was the "display model" that I watched them take out of the box and put on display. So basicly I got a brand new set for $95. $20 cheaper than the price marked in the store and also cheaper than the lowest price before shipping that I could find online (from a reputable retailer). Anyway, I am very happy with them. The sound is so rich and full. I didn't have my hopes set very high after reading all the reviews on wireless headphones in general but I haven't experienced any of the problems most commonly complained about in reviews. I do see that they claim a 20hr battery life on the box. I'll see how true that is over time but so far I've used them over five hours on partially charged (factory charged I believe) batteries and they're still going strong. The charging cradle is truley ingeneous. Just set the headset on the metal things sticking up on the base and it starts charging. All of the other sets I looked at were very difficult to set on the charger. You had to get it just right. My fears of them being uncomfortable turned out to be irrelavent. They are very comfortable even after wearing them for several hours. I would recommend these headphones to anyone that wants a good set of wireless headphones but doesn't want to spend a fortune.
