GeForce 4 MX440 or Radeon 9550

I have both cards and benched both. The MX440 gets a lower 3dmark 01 score on 640x480 by about 2,000 points but when I benched it at 1024x768 the 9550 lost by 1,000 points. I have no time to do real game benchmarks so I jsut want to see which one you guys think is better. Yes I know that the MX440 is a DX7.1 card and the 9550 is a DX9 card but im not looking too much for the new DX effects, Im looking for smoother gameplay at decent resolutions and medium low settings. The difference on the benchmark may have also something to do with the systems tested on. The GeForce was tested on a 2.4C, some Soyo mobo with an Intel 865PE chipset, 512mb pc3200 PDP (Samsung TCCD chips ) and the Radeon was tested on a 2.4B, some ECS mobo with some SiS chipset, and 512mb pc2700 Kingston ram. Thank you Here are the stats on both cards:

MSI 64mb GeForce 4 MX440 4x AGP
Chipset/Core Speed: 275MHz
Memory/Effective Speed: 400MHz

Abit 128mb Radeon 9550 8x AGP
Chipset/Core Speed: 250MHz
Memory/Effective Speed: 400Mhz

I can clock my card to 320/540 (basically 460 speeds) easy but I am just judging by benchmarks right now (yeah i know that was really hypicritical of me to say). But im guessing since the 9550 is better than the 9200 and the 9200 is the rough equivalent of the 5200 then i guess you are right, maybe next time i should use some common sense. thanks

Overclocking success differs greatly from chip to chip, Olly. Even if someone with the exact same card as you can OC to a certain level, it doesn't mean that yours will be able to do the same. You also have to consider your card's cooling and the ambient temperature. (Sydney is pretty hot these days isn't it)
