How do I uninstall an NVidia driver?
I installed a wrong driver for me PCX-5750, and my games are crashing now... And, in the driver file, there's an uninstallation utility clled nvudisp. I double click it, but it just says I can do these things with it, but nothing else. Some help would really help (obviously...).

No, as I said it's the wrong one... someone on these boards told me to download it... then I checked what cards it was compatible with, and my PCX-5750 wasn't on there. So I was like "this would explain the crashing games...". So, now I need to uninstall it.
BTW., there was an error while installing it. I hit cancell but it kept going anyway. Hence, it's installed. |

This is just an opinion, but if it was me I would download the correct driver from www.driverguide.com, then I would force the issue with windows. In device manager I would uninstall the device, then as soon as windows tries to reinstall, cancel the windows install and click "have disk" and when it allows you to specify the driver location, point to where ever you have downloaded the driver, most drivers from driverguide are zipped so dont forget to unzip it first. When you unzip it to the usual unzip folders you can leave it there and point windows to access the driver files from there.
If the file comes as a .exe then you can still delete the driver in device manager and windows should default to the generic driver, make sure you refuse any attempt by windows to install the driver automatically because that will probably just reinstall that driver you are trying to get rid of. Should you manage to get back to the windows generic driver you can then run the self install .exe |

Ok, I can't find any drivers for my card... so, where is Device Manager? Is it the same thing as "add or remove programs"? I'd like to revert back to the default driver.

A google search says that your PCX-5750 is a Gforce card and reading your other thread on this subject, am I correct, in assuming that you are running windows XP?. If so you can download the correct driver from nVidia here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.77
With respect to your question about device manager it is in the system folder in control panel |

Yes, I do have windows XP. And I downloaded and installed that driver. In fact, that is the one I istalled. But, if you look on the list of cards compatible with that, the 5750 is no where on that list... and there's no "Designed for Windows XP Logo" on the box of the card... which was a conflict... So, I'll try reverting back to the generic driver for now.

I just found this FAQ page on the nVidia site, it suggests problems with other parts of your machine, having a read of this won't hurt, it might help to point you in the right direction. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...Z2U9MQ**&p_li= Last edited by rjfvillarosa; 10-19-2004 at 08:01 PM. |
