Onboard audio question
Hey, I've read through the forums and am still a bit confused. If I had onboard audio on my mobo, is it possible to disable it and use an audio card instead? I have seen both yes and no answers and would like a quick reason as to why?

Yes, it is possible. You disable the onboard sound in the bios before you install the card. The newer onboard audio systems are pretty good tho. The advice most often is give it a try with your speakers first and see how it sounds before you try the sound card. My P4P800 Deluxe has 5.1 onboard and I use it with the Logitech Z-640 speakers. Excellent sound. Others have upgraded to an Audigy card and say the sound is better.

You should have no problem disabling onboard audio through the bios and adding a new card to use...
Ive built and upgraded better than a thousand computers and never had a problem with upgrading the sound... what motherboard are you using? if it is a newer chipset with one of the better 6 channel type onboard you may have no real reason to upgrade... |

Thank you very very much for the quick response guys
The build is to be used for music production, would a sound card be of use for that or would onboard still work alright.
