Pissed USB audio problem

OK, you guys are my LAST chance, so it's my turn to ask a question, not to answer it. I have a Logitech USB headset 200, which I've plugged into the back of my bad ol' Dell laptop (running XP home). What happens? Nothing "drivers not found". Exasperated, I plug it into every other computer in the house. It works . Sooo, I go Logitech:
Me: "Could I have some drivers please"
Logitech: "How about no"
Logitech no.2: "Go to Microsoft"

Sooo, I go to Microsoft:
1. "This is not a SP2 issue please contact 'general queries'"
General Queries: "Microsoft spyware has detected that your computer was made by Dell. We have nothing to do with it even though we made the OS. Go to Dell"

Sooo, I go to Dell (paraphrasing a RUDE reply)
"We have nothing to do with this. There is no such thing as a USB audio driver [despite Logitech telling me there is]. Please contact your hardware manufacturer."

Product manufacturer = Logitech

I am going nowhere, please help me!!! Surely the little 'made for WinXP' logo should indicate that it'll work straight out of the box?

Thanks

fedz

If you don't have the drivers, I believe it is Logitech's responsibility to provide them. But Other than that I dunno what to tell you. Did it work before the installation of sp2? If so, try to locate the specific driver on the computers that it worked on and transfer it to the dell.

It is Logitech's responsibility, but they claim that Microsoft have the necessary drivers. I installed SP2 in the hope that it'd provide the drivers, but no, it didn't . I've tried the driver transfer, installation from a floopy, the lot... No luck
Thanks

I have nothing to add other than unplugging the device and then removing it from device manager then letting windows re-install it again

Did you try the add hardware wizard when you plugged it into the Laptop? Also go into Device Manager and look at the USB devices and see if it is recognized as being plugged in. Even though this a USB audio device, I would imagine that your audio card has to be involved somewhere. You can try updating drivers for you audio card, and see if has a configuration in it's properties tab for a USB headset.

you need to install the driver for the usb controler frome device manager , right click on usb controler, properties and then update the driver.
xp-sp2 does not automatically install the driver for usb, you need to do it yourself, it does have the driver in you system now. just update it in device manager

I've done that, it updated, but still no luck. It spent longer scanning for the drivers though...
I uninstalled, disabled, enabled, reinstalled, plugged in, the lot; no luck. This is irritating me...

You're in luck, they have your drivers in Spain.
J\K try this.

Try this.

Remove it from Device Manager again. But this time; Do not choose the best driver. Choose an alternate driver. Even if it is an older driver and not recommended by windows installer (when should we try those shady characters anyway!!)

If it is causing this many problems.. I;d say trash it..

Or..

You can try a less moral approach. Go to wallmart and buy a similar one made by the same company. Make a copy of the driver CD, and keep the new headset that you just purchased. Put your old headset in the package and return it. You could also try the new driver cd on your old headset and return the same one you purchased..

You did say you;d try anything

lol no walmarts in the UK. Do other drivers work though... say if I tried installing plantronics USB headset drivers would they work? (Logitech does not make USB headset drivers).

I don't recall this being asked but are you sure the USB ports in the dell laptop work? Just a long shot here but, are they running USB 1 or USB 2? I know with win XP it should be USB 2, but perhaps your laprop bios has a USB setting that needs to be changed.
