Non-Dell speakers don't work on Dell 2400-help please
I recently bought a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop and didn't order speakers with it, thinking the speakers from my old computer would work. The old speakers don't seem to work, but they also are not Dell speakers. I don't know if its the speakers or the computer. Does anyone know if you need to have some sort of special configuration to use non-dell speakers with a Dell system? Thank you!

Speaker brand shouldn't make a difference. It's probably because your old speakers are unpowered and get all the amplification from the sound card or onboard sound. You probably need to buy some speakers that have a separate power supply. Do you want a 2 speaker (2.0), 2 speakers and subwoofer (2.1), 4.1 or 5.1 system? Let us know and someone will suggest something tailored to your needs.

Thanks, that makes sense. Dell offers a 2 speaker set: Altec Lansing ADA 215 speakers for around $25.00. I just want something basic. Any other suggestions?

Here's that same Dell speaker set for a bunch less. Good supplier too.
