m-audio revolution errors

I'm having some serious issues when I try to install M-Audio Revolution drivers for my sound card. When I reboot the computer it locks up when a sound plays and automatically reboots. I tried it a few times and it does it every time. I reboot in safe mode, and restore the system to right before I installed the sound drivers and the computer boots up fine again...

I had windows XP and the sound card drivers all installed and working fine for over a year, but then I tried installing Service Pack 2 for windows, and my whole computer crashed and I had to reinstall everything.

I don't know if it matters but I also have recently installed Gentoo Linux. My harddrive is partioned into 4 primary sections the first being the linux boot section, second is a linux swap partition, third is the main linux partition, and the 4th is the windows partition, which when I installed windows took over control of the system boot-up... not sure if this has anything to do with the sound driver errors or anything, but it's the only thing i can think of that's different from before the crash, when everything was working fine. That, and the drivers and such are probably newer maybe.

if anyone can give me any suggestions for getting my sound card working i'd appreciate it... thanks.

Have you tried another soundcard? An older soundblaster lying around maybe? I'm familiar with Audiophile, Duo, delta 44 and 1010 but Not the Revolution though.

Try disabling it in the device manager and use an older soundcard to see if it is the soundcard or something else. It could just be a bad soundcard.

Actually I don't have any extra soundcards lying around, but luckily it's ok because I finally got it to work... I searched around until I found an older driver for it on the internet, and I installed that driver, and it seems to be working fine now... It seems I'm not having alot of luck with newer drivers and updates... First SP2 for windows XP crashes my system and makes my harddrive inaccessable, then the new m-audio revolution drivers don't work and automatically reboot my system whenever a sound plays... Guess the lesson of this story is don't fix what isn't broken... or maybe don't try to update windows if you don't have to...
