ATI 9600 256MB .vs. ATI 9800 128
In your opinion which card is better.. I have the 9600 256MB and I am wondering if I would have gotten the 9800 128 would it have been better? |

Though not much of a gamer, I would have to agree with Tin Canary. Assuming the cost difference was not an issue, Most people don't see much if any performance boost between the 256 cards and the 128 cards anyway so the extra mbs of the 9600 is not a factor. There are plenty of other thing to consider in the video cards than just the mbs anyway, though the sales people will sell based on them.

Best Buy is notorious for tossing their customers an underperforming 256MB card over a much higher performing 128MB card.

vRAM, though advertised widely, is only a very minor component of the performance of the card. I agree with all statements above - the Radeon 9800, as long as it is a 256-bit card, will perform MUCH better than the Radeon 9600. Even the 128-bit would probably do better - a far more advanced core.

The 9600 is a good card, just not as good as the 9800. If you are not a heavy gamer the 9600 should be fine.
